Steve Smith Rips into Panthers WRs, "They may draft a WR in the 1st this year that will actually give good effort"

People who tend to discredit Kyle Allen heap praise upon these receivers, while those who give Cam Newton all the credit tend to complain that he has no receivers.

I think like anything, the truth lies near the middle. They’re not trash. They don’t feel elite, either. There’s not a receiver that can take a game over. Of course, that’s pretty rare. Using Steve Smith as the standard sets a pretty high bar.

It’s not a bad time to start thinking ahead to Olsen’s retirement. I don’t think he’s going to play that much longer. I don’t think he’s been unimpressive this year. I’m glad he came back. But I do think he sees a window for other opportunities at some point, and I wouldn’t be surprised if that happens fairly soon. I don’t think they hate Ian Thomas either. I think they have rededicated to the run, and that requires 82 to take that share of the reps. I’m hoping to see more of Thomas once Cam gets back in the lineup.

.....well first and foremost the point here is that flip flopping like that is ass.

Secondly if that's the case no one is ever wrong about any player then. Because they can 'change' their mind about them after the fact.

Thirdly, if you're labeling Moore as a 'bust' as of now in his second year, then you're not understanding positions or what the word bust actually means. This isn't geared towards you specifically, i'm saying this in general.  WR usually take longer to develop and make an impact. As of now Moore has been more on the average side than the bust side. For the year and half he's been here. I wouldn't label him a bust just yet, seems to me that Smith taking the hot take on this. The loss was horrible but the WR's were the least of the worries to be completely honest.

You're taking this too literally, man.

He is criticizing their effort. Not their skill.

They are not mutually exclusive nor are they tied together. It's possible to be critical of a guy's effort while still backing them.

He's telling it like it is.

He have been high on Moore initially, and while Moore may put up decent numbers for the whole year, he certainly hasn't established himself as a true WR1.

And Samuel hasn't performed exceptionally either.

I still believe they both have the talent, but the production hasn't been there, and according to someone who is qualified to make the judgement, neither is the effort.

Hopefully this will light a fire under them.

How could they playing with a back up QB...

Is it the receivers and that’s it or can we also blame a below average o-line, playing a backup qb who can’t throw downfield.

I really think it has more to do with that than anything. We are limited in what we can do in the passing game, as we were at the beginning of the year with Cam. I don't think the Receivers have been bad, Samuel has been open a ton all year, but Allen and Cam have just struggled to put it on target when he gets free.

Of course the OL gets tye blame

But at the same time we automatically point to the terrible OL.  When there are Plenty of coverage sacks as well from WRs not getting open

IMO, offensively it's a combination of things...

1) The OL is again injured / limited at LT

2) We're playing a 2nd year UDFA QB ''over'' a 3rd round selected QB (more on that I'm sure later)

3) SF was able to tee off once we got down, defense just was not able to hold up their end of the bargain early

Talking about it again this morning with Frank Garcia, and he is agreeing with Smith.  Said "We don't have that dog, that #1 WR".

Says Moore is more of a #2 and Samuel a #3

that is certainly what it looks like

Larry Fitzgerald is better than Julio— and it’s not close.

Julio is not in the top 10, maybe not even top 20 ever.

totally ridiculous. Not bashing, wish we had him, but good lord

lol god damn this place is full of morons. Talking to a bunch of people who don’t possess an athletic bone in their body.

If you’re talking about the best WR’s to play, yes, Julio’s name gets brought up, period.

Top 15. Don't let the pass heavy era fool you.
