Opinions: OL is terrible, Newton should sit the rest of season

The OL is average. Not terrible.

How can anyone say this after watching that drubbing yesterday?

Generally for an offensive line to qualify as average you don't see linemen being thrown to the ground like little kids.

Is the OL amongst the worst or the worst in the league? Probably not. But average? Not really.

A couple weeks ago Schefter reported that he's healed up and ready to go....

....let's get him in there and get on with it.

I don’t think he is ready yet.  Healthy enough to get on the field and start working out doesn’t mean healthy enough to be the starter.  Takes weeks for a lot of guys once they get “healthy” enough to practice.

Cam could play.  Mahomes could of played this week.  DeVante Adams could of played this week.  Lot of guys technically could of played this week.   Cam got to get his foot fullly healthy.

Rodgers.  Mahomes.  Watson.  Name a good QB whose OL doesn’t get destroyed pretty consistently.  Gotta be able to make plays as people get beat in this league.

And while I'm one of the biggest Newton homers around, the fact of the matter is if he can't perform at a good level behind a below average OL, then there's no reason for him to be brought back.

If this is the standard we are employing then we might as well empty out the entire QB room now and put CMC behind center because the level of competition this offensive line will be facing isn't getting any easier as the season progresses.

Schefter reported that it is healed and he's ready to go.

Furthermore, he flew on the plane, worked out before the game, and stood on the sidelines the entire game.  All these activities were cited as risky activities for a foot that isn't 100%.

He's ready to go....let's get on with it.

Rather than making an additional thread about it I’ll just add on the fact that trai Turner is awful

2015 made Trai a bunch of money. Sadly it looks like he’s cashed in both figuratively and literally.

I think instead of looking at individual QB's you can look at Super Bowls.  Teams that have gone on to win the Super Bowl have almost always had good to great OL's.  Teams with average to below average lines or individual lineman get exposed.  That's what happned in 2015... Panthers won the positon battle almost across the board but we were SEVERELY outmatched with Von Miller and it cost us the game.  Have to be able to protect the QB to win consistently and make it through the playoffs.

This happens a lot to massively paid free agents.

It's why I never am excited to hear about making players the top paid at their positions....

That Broncos defense did the same thing to Tom Brady in the AFC championship game. Since then the Patriots have gone all in on the OL and it shows. Brady has 6 Super Bowl rings now and realistically looks like he may end up with a 7th.

I think our line is ok as long as Williams isn't taking up either end honestly, and if Little can get healthy I feel really good about them. 49ers are an above average pass rush so I wouldn't throw Daley to the brig for that.
