I'd like to see this compared to NFL averages of teams coming off a bye not playing another team coming off a bye

Closest I could get

After a Bye Week Since 2011 :

2011- loss to Titans 30-3

2012- loss to Cowboys 19-14

2013- loss to Cardinals 22-6

2014- loss to Vikings 31-13

2015- beat Seahawks 27-23

2016- beat Cardinals 30-20

2017- beat Jets 35-27

2018- beat Giants 33-31

2019- loss to 9ers 51-13

4-5 overall record/ out scored 254- 174

That's super misleading. The 2017 and 2018 performances were terrible: the Jets easily could have beaten us when we were a playoff team and they finished 5-11 and it took the longest game winner in history to win last year.

Really 2 good performances out of 9.

So we are better when Ron has less time to prepare?

My completely ignorant opinion thats based more on my feelings than anything tangible that I can point to..

Isn't so much that Ron is "better" when he has less time to prepare.  From an Xs and Os point of view.

Its that when there is too much time to prepare, Ron is having issues keeping players properly motivated.  We see this in other sports.  When during the NBA playoffs if Team A wins their 7 game series in a 4 run sweep, and they are going against Team B that took 6 games..what is the narrative?  "Did Team A have too much time off?!"

When we have less time off, the team has less time to get distracted.  Less time to get "rusty".

I am by no way excusing this.  I've never accepted pro athletes getting "rusty" just because they had a few more days off in any professional sport.  But clearly it happens.  And I feel it happens most often to inexperienced teams, or teams without a stronger disciplinary structure.  Ron will always be known as a "players coach"

While a better game plan definitely would have helped, I don't think a perfect Xs and Os strat would have changed anything.  We came out flat from the get go.  We weren't tackling.  We weren't blocking.  A better game plan isn't going to be a 40 point swing if we can't get down the bare basics.
