The things that piss me off to no end about this team...

1. Ron Rivera is still the same guy. The entire staff still does the same bad things.

There is no way Daryl Williams should have started on the OL anywhere yesterday. Much less at a tackle position. Daley and Moton had been playing very well, and then we disrupt that continuity to try and insert Williams back into the line. Our OL got ate up early and often, and when it did, Williams was most likely a part of it. He shouldn't even have a job today after getting thrown like he did in the 4th quarter. I don't care how much he makes.

We also still don't adjust until it is too late. After the first couple of misdirection plays, we should have adjusted our safeties at the very least. We also should have stacked the box a whole lot more, going into the game against one of the best rushing teams in the league. It is like we were terrified of the Sanders trade, and it showed, bad.

2. Our WRs are soft little bitches.

I love the potential that DJ and Curtis have, and I appreciate their "playmaking ability." However, they are both playing pretty soft/unmotivated. I'm hoping this is due to Cam being out and Kyle not being able to put the ball where they are used to. But, I have been extremely unimpressed with both of these guys once they have the ball in their hands the past several weeks. I think both of them are playing incredibly soft right now, Curtis especially.

3. WTF is up with the return game, and is there a plan?

Where was Dortch? Why was he inactive? I'll give Bonnafon and Zylstra the wind/sun excuse, but we looked worse yesterday on special teams than we have all year.

4. We're so one dimensional on offense that McCaffrey's elite skills aren't going to carry us against good/decent teams.

We still force it to him way too much, and he'll be run into the dirt before long. Due to #2, he's all we've really got going. But, it still wouldn't hurt to get Bonnafon and Scarlett some time in the game. IDKWTF we're doing here. I get that CMC is the best back in the game, but holy poo we're going to destroy him.

5. How come Ian Thomas has become an afterthought and he only comes in during junk time?

I mean, I get that Manhertz is supposed to be a great blocker and all, but JFC Greg isn't doing much at all. Give the younger guy some plays.

It’s annoying how they undervalue the return game. Not settling in on a definitive punt returner is maddening. You cut your last guy, you came off a bye week and signed a guy, and then you don’t activate him. You had an entire by week to get that straightened out. I love Bonnafon, but he’s not a natural a punt returner. He’s a nice third down back, and he’s a superb special teams contributor. That’s not a natural fit.

It’s OK to say the receivers aren’t consistently getting it done. Twitter film guys will tell you Kyle had guys open all day every day, and he’s just not seeing it. I’m telling you right now, they’re not getting enough separation. And when they start bracketing McCaffrey in the passing game, they have to win those one on one situations. There were a few open guys yesterday that were missed, but for the most part, they’ve been fairly average out there.

Fans need to manage their expectations about Newton. I think he makes everything better to a certain degree when he’s back, but there’s no magic wand to fix some of the problems.

Also, he needs to be prepared to run 5 to 7 times a game. If he can’t do that anymore, or chooses not to, or if Norv boxes him in, have fun with that.

I agree Rivera undervalues the return game, but I'm honestly more upset by how little he seems to value having a strong offensive line.

I go back to Buddy Ryan a lot when talking about Rivera, but it's valid. Both guys believed you could get away with having a mediocre offensive line if you had a mobile quarterback.

It's garbage.

About the WRs...I wonder how much losing Lance Taylor hurt the WRs? Their new coach Jim Hostler hasn't really been a world beater as a WR coach. I feel like he got hired on the recommendation of Torrey Smith because Hostler was the WR coach for the Ravens from 2008-2013. I miss Rickey Proehl.

Well for one, I think it puts people like John Matsko in a tough spot. He’s worked magic at times with some marginal players. Look at some of the people who have had to play left tackle over the years, or even grooming a guy like Norwell. But yes, it’s a huge concern. And it was exposed yesterday. Especially when you decide to get cute and play offensive tackle roulette.

Ricky did great work with the parts he was given. I hated losing him.

I put on my tinfoil hat with regard to Norv Turner a while back.

When I looked at the incoming position coaches compared to some of the options we could have had (even ones that Turner and Rivera were familiar with) I was confused.

The question I wound up asking was whether we were deliberately picking up guys who would pose no threat to become future OCs so as to make sure that that seat was specifically kept warm for Norv's son, Scott.

It's pure tinfoil hattery, but I also would say it does kinda make sense.

    • Nah I wanna see these NFL evaluators talking about his prospects at WR aren't good because I would LOVE to see thier explanations
    • You do realize that raw stats don't make someone a better or worse player, right? To begin with, the last time I checked, 1,319 is more yards than 1,258, so T-Mac had more yards (but I'll forgive you as a typo there and say you meant catches lol), but that's before even factoring in that Hunter did his in 13 games vs 12 for T-Mac because Arizona didn't make a bowl game. It's also completely ignoring the team around each player.  If you think Hunter having the 8th place finisher in the Heisman voting at QB isn't going to result in helping his top WRs stats, then you're sticking your head in the sand to purposefully not see it. Hunter's QB had 353 completions for 4,134 yards and 37 TDs vs T-Mac's QB who had 260 completions for 2,958 yards and 18 TDs. But sure, let's rank NFL prospects by their stats and say the guy with more catches and TDs is the better prospect.  So on that note, I now change my mind, T-Mac is no longer the best WR in the draft, it's Nick Nash who had 104 rec, 1,382 yards, and 16 TDs, all numbers better than Hunter's... because that's how this is done, right? As I've said before, if someone wants to like a player better than someone else that's totally fair, but come with real reasons, talk about their play, but to talk about things like stats as your reasoning, when you ignore the obvious and massive flaws in using those stats in that way, just makes you look dumb.
    • Nah you don't go out and put up the numbers he did without being able to run routes dude is a football junky so he works on his craft he isn’t THAT much more athletic than other players to just be able to go out and do whatever and succeed at that level
