It’s hilarious how during the four game win streak nobody was complaining about Ron.. 10 seconds after we lose to the 9ers we’re talking about the next coach. Reactionary thread at its finest.

Complaining about Rivera didn't just start this season.

I just think Rivera is another John Fox or Jeff Fisher.

They can make changes between seasons but they cant put the right players in the right positions to win,.

and they aren’t closers.

if they have all the players that fit their schemes perfectly then they can go to the playoffs— it might even be possible to win a Super Bowl if they are playing the same guy on the other side.

they just can’t adjust within the game, and seem incapable of having a “next man up”.

of course,.. many coaches can’t do that— or they are the other extreme where they get too cute all the time— go Eric Mangini in games and only win when someone is caught staring at their ridiculousness.

finding a coach that can coach the next man up, make effective changes within games and can also be a closer is tough—

who is that?

I'd agree that coaches like Rivera can be good to decent, but they'll never be great or elite.

The problem is that when people see them being good, they get fooled into thinking that they can take the next step.

It's been nine years. He is what he is.

as to who that coaches that can take the next step, well I've already offered my opinion on that.

Rivera is frustrating I get it.

but everyone wants to crown Sean Peyton as a godsend but fails to forget that some Saints fans wanted him gone after 3 straight 7-9 seasons.

It’s hard to win in the NFL and it seems like the same teams over and over are always hiring new coaches.

Change for the sake of change is never a good strategy.

With that said I can understand Tepper hiring someone new to be his guy because that’s the trend in the nfl anyways.

We're not talking about a guy who's still figuring out how to be an NFL head coach.

This is who he is, and who he is just isn't good enough.

Shaun Peyton and the hoodie come to mind.

There’s only one Hoodie, ha.

Sean Peyton is a good, almost great coach. He does make adjustments in game, does go for it when he wants to, and is a pretty good closer.

Pete Carroll is the coach I wanted when Foxy was going,... he’s really good also.

after those 3,.. it gets pretty much into the “good” but not great guys,..

it also takes a good GM— San Francisco has a GM that has put together a team that is working for ol Kyle over there. The jury is out on whether it continues.

you have to have both.

Here are some excerpts from a few of the articles I've read about Dan Campbell (apologies to @Iron Saint)

2019 NFL assistant coaches to watch (Tom Pelissero)

The benefits of being mentored by Sean Payton: Dan Campbell is ready to be a head coach (Mike Triplett)

A matter of when: Dan Campbell on deck for a shot as an NFL Head Coach (Alex Marvez)

The man certainly has the "assistant head coach" tag next to his name for a pretty damn good reason.

A very minuscule and insignificant portion of our fan base were calling for Payton's head during that stretch. What the majority of Saints fans WERE calling for were the heads of Payton's nepotistic crew: Joe Vitt (LB coach), Bill Johnson (DL coach), and Greg McMahon (ST coordinator) who had done absolutely nothing of value worthy of retaining their services, other than their connection with Payton.

Think of it like this, if Payton is the boss, Vitt was the underboss and everyone (especially on the defensive side the ball) answered directly to him, INCLUDING the defensive coordinators we employed. That's the reason why he was appointed as the interim head coach during Payton's exile (after he served his own, of course).

SaintsReport: Saints have fired assistant coaches Joe Vitt, Bill Johnson, Greg McMahon, Stan Kwan, James Willis [MERGED]

This is the 25-page, 387-reply thread on SaintsReport upon the news of the coaching staff decimation along with a few quotes... (please excuse the random strings of code, this was from before the software was updated and tweets had to be embedded, now tweets are auto-embedded with the link)

There is a god!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What? The old guard is gone! Is Payton turning over a new leaf?

This needed to happen last off season!

Hollllyyyy God it's happening hahaha

Wha Wha Wha Whaaaatt?!?!?! Are we really making coaching changes after all this same ol' same ol'? YES!

Wow! The moves that many at SR have asked for are finally happening! Have to say kudos to Mickey and Payton. I know it must be tough for Sean since a few of those coaches he's close with (namely Vitt).

wow bob wow this may break SR

LOOKS LIKE Payton knows it's time to win now. Even if that means firing good friends

Just ecstatic that McMahon is finally gone!

And those are just from the first page, it goes on...

holy ****, color me surprised as all ****

The old Sean is back!

Fired Joe? I don't believe Payton would fire his homeboy if we were staying.... or perhaps "Accountability" is finally being applied to the franchise?

3 years to late but thank you sweet baby Jesus that it finally happened

Thank goodness and long time coming!!

McMahon should have been fired after the browns game in 2010!!!

Wow, people have been calling for this the past number of years. I hate to see guys lose their jobs but this was way past due to happen. They just weren't getting the job done to be honest. Best to do it now while quality coaching candidates are available.

Wow. Not saying anything about his coaching ability but I'm most surprised by Vitt, really thought that one was in that consigliere role. Wonder if it was all Payton's call?

Additionally, of the ones that wanted Payton fired, most only wanted him fired because it meant Vitt, Johnson, and McMahon would finally be gone too. A bit of "if you won't fire them, all y'all need to go" which was understandable considering how bad each of those units were during that span.

I think what throws some people off is that he doesn't have the "offensive coordinator" title next to his name.

It probably shouldn't, but it does.

Indeed, it's something that would make me partially skeptical about hiring him though, honestly. He has very little (if any) experience in calling plays, so he'd certainly need an experienced set of coordinators under him. I say "very little/if any" because I don't know if he called plays in Miami at anypoint; I know he fired the OC at one point but not sure if he assumed those duties or if they were inherited by the QB/RB/OL coach.
