I think that’s gotta be one of the lesser talked about inconveniences of being a professional athlete - you miss a lot of important stuff and family.

you hear it a bit from coaches or players when they retire, they often say they wish they could have been a better dad.

There sure are a lot of folks making $40k or less a year that miss out on even more than that. While it's nice that his teammates do that, my heart really goes out to those nurses, ambulance drivers, third shift factory workers, cops, cooks and convenience store clerks that never get to spend holidays, weekends or evenings with their kids.

Yup no argument from me here. Don’t forget about the people who work behind the scenes in TV and Radio that work weird hours all the time So we can watch games on TV.

Then you have millions to spend nearly unlimited time with them other times of the year

Sure, but missing things like graduation, birthdays, and even their birth take their toll and they have to live with missing it. Money doesn’t solve every issue LOL.

Wait hold up...

McCoy is 31 and if it's his son's senior night he must be 17 or 18? So that means Gerald was slinging some potent dick at 14/15?

Saw several posts on Twitter that suggested the oldest is his stepson.

But the more I look into it, it doesn't seem true since he's known his wife since 7th grade.

But regardless, this is a VERY cool story. Kudos to Jameis, Lavonte, Evans and Donavon Smith for being there for a friend.

------

This article suggests that Neveah, is his first child, born when he was 17.

His oldest son Marcellus has a different last name (Crutchfeld) as well....

Makes me respect GMC a whole lot more to read what he went through, losing his mother and becoming a dad at 17... and seeing the man and leader he's become.
