Tom Brady in a Panthers uniform?

If Kyle continues to develop, I don’t think it would be sensible to bring Brady in. Brady is not all about “mentoring young guys“. Even if he’s 45, he won’t be about that.

Plus, I feel it’s unlikely Newton leaves. But again, some of that hinges on the second half of the this season.

I considered posting this yesterday, but thought better of it. But now that it’s here, I’ll share my thoughts:

1. Living here in Boston and being around Pats fans all the time I can say this is the first time I’ve seen that they’ve been legitimately nervous about Brady being done in NE after the season. I tend to think Schefter is right that Brady is more likely to either retire or go to a new team than play for NE after this year although it’s far from certain. His wife nagging him to retire may come into play and make retirement the most likely scenario, but one thing that I think is true of Brady and Belichick as competitors is that they both want to prove they can have success without the other, which would obviously lead to Brady leaving for another team.

2. Assuming Brady does leave NE and become a free agent (still a big assumption and I don’t think is the most likely outcome) he would certainly only go to a competitor with a QB vacancy/uncertainty. Bears, possibly Niners, Bills, maybe even Raiders, and yes us. Of course a lot would have to happen but assuming he does leave NE and keeps playing, we definitely fit the bill of a possible landing spot.

3. Let’s say he did want to sign here. I have no clue at all how the team would view that possibility, whether they’d say no chance we don’t want a QB that old who really doesn’t fit our system or if they’d think he could be the missing piece for a short term SB goal. And of course a lot would have to happen for it to even be considered. Cam would have to be out the door, and Allen would have to not play well enough to just ride with him, taken together I think these are unlikely to happen.

Personally, I really do think that we have all the pieces to contend on D and weapons on O and an improving OL, and an elite veteran QB like a Peyton Manning post-Indy would be an amazing addition and could give us our best ever shot at a SB, and also give Kyle some more time to be groomed before taking over as starter again, like Rodgers behind Favre, etc. However, I do not at all think Brady fits the bill there. He’s not a good fit in our offense and he’s already showed regression this year and Father Time stops for no one. And in general, even if he was in his prime, I’m not at all convinced he’s an elite QB without Belichick.

It would be a hard pass for me, but let’s say it did happen. As much as I can’t stand the guy I’d root for him here to bring us a SB.

I think it's possible. I thought it was possible even before the whole Kyle Allen thing.

We're talking about a quarterback on the wrong side of 30 who hasn't been healthy in a long time, has only one year left on his contract and has a high cap figure.

If we were looking at that profile on any other team, we'd be thinking there's at least a 50/50 chance that he's not with that team for much longer.

Any kind of extension being offered to him now is a gamble that he can stay healthy in ways that he hasn't been able to for the last few years.

I wouldn't blame any other team in the league for being unwilling to take that gamble.

If we're not, I won't blame us either.

Going after Brady would be an "all in on this year" kind of move.

I'm not a big fan of those.

Has put his house up for sale in Massachusetts, trainer has also. Will be a FA after 2019.

A lot of people think Cam is gone after this year, Tom could play while Kyle continues to learn.

Not saying I would want him here but anything is possible.
