Cosell 49ers breakdown.

Here is the next installment in the weekly Cosell breakdown. Obviously with us in the bye week it’s was mostly about the 49ers.

Personnel packages.  Norv has to do a really good job from personal standpoint because in Cosell’s opinion the 49ers could have the best nickel package in the nfl.  (Will we keep them out of that and see more 2 TE sets?)

Both their DT’s are 6-7 and can really disrupt passing lanes.  Bosa is great at engaging and disengaging while rushing. Like us they will line up Bosa and Dee Ford together to make sure one of the guys will get a 1 on 1 with a guard.  (Look for them to test GVR with that look.)

They were talking about Williams at LT if Daley can’t go. But I wouldn’t be surprised to see Moton at LT based on Bill Voth interview today. But Daley practiced today and will start.  So that is a moot point. Either way with not havIng an experienced OL Norv will have to be really good at scheming on 1st and 2nd down.  Because 3rd and long against this defense is not a winning strategy.

49er secondary:  predominant zone scheme.  Good safety play.  Tart will matchup on Olsen. (Not a bad matchup for us)  Ward is a great cover FS.  Their normal right CB Witherspoon is out and replaced by Mosley an UDFA out of Tennessee.    (Look for a huge game from DJ)

Garoppolo: Shanahan schemes well for him.  Lots of motion pre snap.  Predefined reads. (Sound familiar?)

Running game:  really good running game.  Have to stop that to put them in 3rd and long.

49er OL:  Playing backup Tackles.  Just like us this comes down to managing down and distance.  And trying to sure up their pass protection against our front 7.  We should eat on 3rd and long.  The RT was a TE in college and is the weak link. Only 3rd start.  (Look for Irvin to play well)

(Overall this is a really interesting matchup of two teams with some OL questions going up against dominant DL’s.  The best matchup is actually going to be which coach between Shanahan and Norv will have a better scheme to keep their team in 3rd and manageable.  Both teams are gonna sell out to stop the run.  And who will be able to perform better between the two QB’s.)

This should be great game of really good matchups of both players and coaches.  Can’t wait

Until next week,  Cheers!

Are you Cosell?

Nope.  That is from Greg Cosell from NFL films. One of the best in the business.  Watches according to him 75 hours of tape per week during the season.  Has been doing it for 26 years.
I enjoy his take because he is an X’s and O guy and not like the rest of the talking heads in the industry.
This one was a little short because of our bye week.

I'm sorry...I'm not saying its impossible that he plays well but....

...Emmanuel Moseley has started the past three games and the 49ers have given up a grand total of 176 yards passing. That's about 58 yards per game. His first NFL start was against OBJ and Landry. His second was against Kupp, Cooks, Woods.

Now things happen, but strikes me as a bit off that you'd read UDFA and just make the "Huge Game" assumption.

Peace.

What Voth interview are you talking about?

Voth was on WFNZ.  They were asking what the Panthers would do if Daley was out.  He didn’t come out right and say it but he eluded that they needed to think of other options for LT than Williams.  How I took it is they would move Moton to LT and Williams to RT.

So basically he's thinking what all of us are thinking.

I love how bandwagon trolls from shitty teams show up on our board when their teams come out of their hibernation for a season.  Hey Marvin where have you been for the last 20 years???
