Because why wouldnt they be... former MVP. Only decline in skill we have that is 100% evident is injury. I dont like or care for who little a large contingent of our fanbase fells about Newton. If he was just done I dont think so many other franchises would value you him so high. Stay pat until your sure what you have or dont have. 

Not sure I have ever seen a franchise so ready to jettison the be quarterback they have had in franchise history. It is plausible that Jake gets more love and respect than Newton dispite their accomplishments.  I wonder why that is..

Probably because Newton is fresh in everyone's mind and people reminisce about Jake. If you were here in 2009 you would remember how disgruntled fans were when Jake's arm was done. All those interceptions against Arizona started the slide. Newton is undisputably the best quarterback we have had in our history.  No one who knows football believes anything else. Let's not make it anything but a recency issue. Plus people are so attached to Cam that is hard to even contemplate that he isn't Superman anymore after being that for so long.

Joe Person addressed the trade question in his latest Athletic article. He gives it even less chance of happening than Freeman does (i.e. zero)

The one caveat that Person did include is this:

 

I said the Panthers  themselves probably dont want to get rid of Newton but your living a very shelter lifestyle if you dont think a large portion of the fanbase doesnt want to move on from Newton. If I'm estimating and this is just me looking at comments here and beyond I was say its at least in the 30-40% range. That's why I said a large portion. Not is one 100% accurate like my estimate but if you look even around here the answers are out there.

Second this. I loved Jake. I loved Jake’s passion, his accountability, his desire to win. I did not particularly love Jake’s arm and it’s less than NFL average accuracy at the best of times. When the arm started to go, so did my desire for Jake to continue to be my qb.

Then I beheld the wonder that was Jimmy Clausen attempting to do whatever it is that he does. I have watched every single game this team has ever played with the exception of the second half of that season. I just couldn’t take it anymore. Please Jesus deliver us from football awfulness. 

Football Jesus showed up next season in the form of one Cam Newton. From that day til now I have had no other qb before him. He is amazing. I love his passion. I love that he doesn’t forget to have fun. I love when he does crazy impossible things on a football field. Like Jake before him I have not always been crazy about his accuracy, but he was so very worth it.

But time waits for no man, and the football gods are not merciful to those who play their game. Cam has bought this team much and more by putting his body on the line. If he can come back and be even close to what he was, I will rejoice. If not, I will happily see what other teams will give for him. Such is the nature of the NFL.

Well said I cant agree with you more. Unfortunate we all run into people who refuse to even accept Newton as a quarterback. "Hes a running back or athlete playing the quarterback position". Tell me you haven't encountered these people and I will say your not behing honest.

I think you are making up stats as you go. A “Large portion of our fan base” lacks any actual evidence or fact. I bet if there was a poll of all actual fans less than 10% would say they want to see cam traded, and that in my opinion is being entirely generous.

I think there’s no way Cam gets traded before the deadline. Even if the Panthers defeat the 49ers.

Kyle’s played well enough, but he hasn’t had to overcome enough game adversity to ease my mind (which is not his fault). He’s yet to be down by multiple scores. We haven’t needed him to account for 300 yards passing. He hasn’t had to win a shootout, or comeback in the last two minutes  

Plus, I’m one of those fans who wants Cam to come back and shut everyone up. I don’t think he gets nearly enough respect for his skill. But mostly, I think Cam’s potential is at a level above most quarterbacks in the league still. Throughout his career, I’ve dreamt that Cam would have THIS team. Where he wasn’t the best runner. Where his receivers gained separation so he didn’t constantly have to force the ball into tight windows. Where his offensive line didn’t have some glaring weak link. Where he didn’t have to carry the offense by himself each game. In week 2, Cam completed seven of his first eight or nine passes (I think) against the Bucs (including a 30+ yarder to Samuel) before the play where he supposedly re-aggravated his foot. I don’t think Cam is anywhere close to being out of his prime. I hope to get a chance to see him on the field again before they trade/release him to save money.

Literally NOBODY wants to see Cam Newton traded right now.
