Here is how I see it, and that means a lot to most of the smarter Huddlers...

You don't get better paying older players on the decline due to age or injury.

Gerald McCoy: If he takes less for giving less, sure.  But you should not think we must have him--we do not, especially if we re-sign Butler and I am guessing DT will be addressed with a very early draft pick

, Vernon Butler:  Some DTs take a while. The light seems to be coming on for him.  I would re-sign him if he finishes the season strong, but no megadeal--I might overpay a little.

Kyle Love has always been cheap and on one-year deals.  He is up there in age, so I think we need a new NT

, Mario Addison is also getting older, but he is playing well.  To put this in perspective, he is at the age Charles Johnson retired. He will be 33 next year. If it comes down to big payday or let him walk, I probably let him walk.

Shaq Thompson will want a Brinks truck, and because he is so multi-functional, he might get it.  Entering his prime, pay the man,

, Bruce Irvin--no deal.  We have 3 behind him and each (Burns, Miller, Haynes) can probably get better results.

Ross Cockrell is a good third CB---he will be affordable.  Yes.

Tre Boston I think he is poor at tackling and does not do a great job in coverage. Aside from that, he is fine.  The draft is deep at S--draft one and start a rookie with vets all around him.  Thank Boston for his services.

, James Bradberry should be the #1 priority and get paid.  He is better than Norman--not as lucky, but more consistent.

Re-sign: Butler,  Cockrell, Shaq, and Bradberry

Bye Bye: McCoy, Addison, Irvin, Love, and Boston.   Some tough calls, but this is what I do if they all want market value.

First 2 draft picks:  DT,  FS

Maybe the players like playing here enough to sit them all down and get them to take team friendly deals to resign everyone? Would be nice, I think everyone loves playing on this defense and if everyone pulled together and took 1 to 2 mil less you could probably sign everyone.

I might would slightly too, tho im not sure, ilb is so important and the numbers shaq is producing are phenominal but i think both are equal must keeps.

Admittedly, I'm using my own value system when I say this.

Rivera values pass rush over coverage, so that has to factor into the equation.

Hurney messed that up by pushing money down the road.

Discussing this in another thread.  To cut KK would cost us 8.5 per season over the next two in dead money, and only free up 3M for next season.  If we can sign Butler to a deal worth 3M....then yea, maybe we cut KK, but he is likely to make a lot more than that.

We are quickly finding ourselves old at the DT position if we keep KK (likely), try to get another year out of McCoy, and keep Love.

I'm betting McCoy sticks, and for a reasonable price tag. Love will be brought back on a one year deal -- he is like the best senior temp/contract worker in the office ... can't let him go, but can't afford to give him long term benefits. Shaq, Cockrell and Bradberry are definites and I'd let Butler test the market then offer a team friendly figure... if his work level stays up through the season (anyone can have a burst or two).

Mario stays if Mario wants to. That means a team friendly deal that is also Mario friendly. Maybe a rotating one year deal like Love's to account for age.

Irvin, he's good but he's not standing out among the young OLBs that surround him. Once again, if he comes cheap, keep him.

Boston... honestly, he has done a much better job back there than any of us thought. If he'll take journeyman's wages...
