Girlfriend is the default, because what do you go with past that?  It just gets ugly.  Better to put girlfriend and let people find out on their own what the current situation/drama is.

 

They have kids, they always going to be attached, and girlfriend is the ground floor relationship status.  Would you have rather it said Cam Newton's baby mama?

We have to pretend we live in a  world where this doesn't happen.  You forgot that part.

People still exist like my grandmother who think people shouldn't live together or share a bad if they are not married.  It would have been funny and probably got more clicks if they said " friends with benefits ".  That would have got people going.
