Kyle Allen - Trade

Good grief, no.

Why do people keep wanting to trade away good young players? Even if they're backups, depth matters.

And trading away somebody you know is good to pick someone in the draft who may or may not be?

Sheesh :eyeroll:

This league to too competitive to sit on your hands and just be happy with what you have, thats how 8-8 teams are formed.

Turning a UDFA in to a high draft pick seems like a smart decision. OR rolling the dice with Allen and moving Cam for a bunch of picks also seems like a smart decision.

I dont think there can be a option to sit idle.

Aaron Rodgers spent 3 years on the bench.

Aaron Rodgers spent 3 years on the bench.

Aaron Rodgers spent 3 years on the bench.

We aren't limited to "We have to start Kyle Allen from now on or trade him away forever." He can go back to the bench and continue to be a backup and learn. He's young and got a long career ahead of him, and if we aren't foolish and manage our personnel wisely, we can transition to Kyle Allen in the prime of his career during the twilight of Cam's.

"UDFA for draft picks" probably sounds good in a vacuum, but it's not reality.

In reality, draft status doesn't mean sh-t once you actually see them play. A lousy player doesn't become a better player just because he was highly drafted. Neither does a good player have less value simply because you didn't acquire him with a draft pick.

This kind of thinking only works in Madden. In the real world, you don't give away good players for hypotheticals.

Best Case scenario is Cam for a 1st and 2nd.

Kyle is younger and cheaper and the cap space would allow us to build a juggernaut.

You're crazy.  The Jags just traded a CORNERBACK for 2 first rounders and a 4th rounder, and you're trying to tell me the most any QB needy team would give up for Cam Newton is a 1st and a 2nd?  No way.  2 firsts is the absolute floor I would see for a healthy Cam in any trade scenario.

ummm this happens literally all the time.

Matt Flynn, Jimmy J, Ramsey, etc..

Ramsey is a malcontent who bellyached to be traded.

Matt Flynn had one good game.

Garoppolo was behind Brady.

None of those are anything like our situation.

As far as where we are, to be perfectly blunt, any GM who would trade a 23 year old player that looked like he had potential to be pretty good in favor of keeping a guy on the wrong side of 30 who hasn't been able to stay healthy in years, that GM would deserve to be fired, pointed at, laughed at, mocked, derided, hounded out of the league and made the subject of websites dedicated to his stupidity.

It's that bad of an idea.

The reality is we shouldn't be certain of Cam or Allen yet, beyond hypotheticals all of this is premature. Take the rest of the year and see what the next 10 games show us.

Thats what this OP was all about. If Cam is good to go and Grier looks good running the 2nd team it would be dumb to not maximize Allen.

If either of those 2 things are not true then yes, keep Allen.

How long does Cam stay good?

And unless you can de-age him or get him to accept a ridiculous pay cut, those things are gonna be factors as well.
