Yeah, I'd prefer to skip that step.

One thing I'd really like to see more people acknowledge is just how fantastic a situation it would be for us if Kyle Allen turns out to be really, really good.

When the time comes, not having to put a lot of effort into searching for our next quarterback would be a huge relief.

Has anyone said this wouldn't be a fantastic situation?

People are putting an awful lot of effort into discounting anything and everything suggesting that Allen is good or has helped us win.

And no, it's not all for objective reasons.

The argument around that is typically always "Cam Newton should have the starting spot when he returns"/"Kyle Allen hasnt shown himself to be the starter over Cam Newton".

You can hope Kyle Allen improves eventually and turns into that really really good QB you hypothetically stated..while still wanting Cam Newton to be the starter for this season.

That is the boat I am in.  I would love for Kyle Allen to be the QB of the future.  But today is not the future.  I still feel Cam Newton (assuming he returns 100% healthy) is the starter of the present.

We're so fortunate to have a back up QB that can win games.  KA is doing what he is paid to do.  Come in for the STARTING QB and win games.  Because he is doing his job, and quite well I might add, doesn't mean that when the STARTING QB comes back he stays in.

That said, I would have Cam on a very short leash.  If it appears that he is still favoring that foot and not producing like he should.  Then pull the plug early and get KA back in there. 

I've said this before, Cam has to be Cam.  The Cam that occasionally runs and scrambles.  My only fear is that someone is going to target that foot and try to re-injure it.  

Cam is a weapon.

Finally if I were Ron Rivera I would list Cam as Questionable for the 49er game.  Make the Niners prepare for both QBs.  This will make their week a bit tougher.

Steve Smith disagrees.

Likewise, teammates like Olsen and Van Roten disagree with you on how much Allen is contributing to victories.

They also point out, as others have, that he's improving with each game.

That's what you want.

A short leash for performance reasons is not.

Whatever choice theu make, they have to stick with it.

I don't really care if Steve Smith disagrees.

I don't care if his team mates are backing him.  Of course they are going to.  They are going to say everything possible to keep him motivated.  Because that is what team mates do.

But hey.  I guess we should *only* listen to the figures that agree with what you personally think.

In this case I believe they go hand in hand.  If he is not performing well due to his foot is not 100% than they would pull the plug.

Additionally ironic, in that I just posted elsewhere how some people weren't smart enough to know the difference between talking about what could happen and talking about what they want to, and I'm pretty sure you responded to it so I'll assume you read it.
