First, i agree there is no reason to bench Cam right now if he is fully healthy.  He should be the starter, at least if he could become fully healthy before we get more data on Allen.

But, I think comparisons to Moore, Cassel, Flynn etc are all off.  Yes, some of those guys had decent starts as backups.  But none of them started 5 and 0 with no TDs.  Moore for instance, over his first five starts, threw 4 tds and 3 ints and was 3-2. He did rip off a nice win streak after that, but what Allen is doing, albeit with help, really is impressive IMO.

Allen really has been special for a young qb making his first starts, and will undoubtedly grow. I am really excited about him.  But Cam to start last year was so good that if he is truly healthy, he will give us the best shot at a deep run.

Those other QBs didnt have the top RB and top D that got them off to a lead.  And just required him to not make a mistake and lose the lead.

Cassel, Moore and Flynn were required to carry the team

Also Allen has only played in 4 games on a weak schedule (combined record of 6-11-1)

Lets see what he does at SF and vs GB (if he is still starting)  before we crown him

No, no, no, please post a video of a throw Kyle Allen has made that a backup cannot. I can find you a backup every fuging year that looks amazing for a stretch (way better than Allen mind you), and they almost always fizzle out. This is ridiculous.

Alright these two throws back to back. It's AZ but it's the windows he's throwing into.

Name these backups for me.

They were not asked to carry their teams early at all... Cassel ws a backup was in a perfect system.  He didn't carry the team his first few games.

Moore had DWill and Stew... pretty sure he didn't need to carry the team.  And our D was decent back then too.

Allen was also the QB this year when we beat Houston, the beat team we have played this year so far. So we will see how it goes, but I am perplexed why so many fans want to write off what he has done.  Seems  knee jerk reaction to all the anti cam trolls over the years.

Just curious, but where do the Panthers players rank on YAC? Christian, Samuel, Moore, how much do they average vs the rest of the league.

Not sure if there is a site that does the math on all that, but I can at least do YAC for our guys according to Fox Sports.

CMC: 303 YAC (2nd in the league)
DJ: 134 YAC
Samuel: 87 YAC
Olsen: 89 YAC
Wright: 53 YAC
Hogan and Armah: 7 YAC

Now to adjust for the two Cam games to start the year is tough, game logs don't give YAC.

“I think everyone’s just looking for a reason to take away from what he’s done. And all he’s done is what he’s needed to do, which is win, move our offense, be efficient, make the plays that are available. And that’s what he’s done,” tight end Greg Olsen said.

I did quick search, and maybe I'm wrong, but it looks like Allen is at 25th in the league for passing yards per game.

He also has a running back that's putting up nearly 300 scrimmage yards per game.  There hasn't been a pressing need to push the ball down the field.

That being said, no, I don't think Kyle Allen can win in a shootout, but he hasn't been in a scenario where he's needed to let it rip over and over, so we can't really judge it.

Yeah, that's not that special buddy. Especially vs that defense. Google "backup quarterbacks" 2015/2016/2017/2018 highlights and have at it, cause they all could meet this low bar.

Cassell didn't have a MVP RB touching the ball 80% of the time.  And he was having to throw more, avg about 300 yards a game.  He wasnt gifted early leads, he had to lead the drive to get the lead.

Moore did have those 2 RBs but its no different than CMC carrying it with a performance to be the first RB in over a decade to be in the MVP conversation

The whole "he fumbles multiple times a game" thing isn't really accurate.

In his first two starts this season, Allen fumbled twice, and then three times.

In the two games since, he fumbled once and then not at all.

Jameis Winston fumbled a couple of times yesterday. Allen did not, despite being hit.

It's like people think a young quarterback can't possibly improve from their first few games. If that narrative were true, Newton never would have become an MVP.

Whoa, that is a lot of YAC this year. The difference from having two massive tight ends playing receiver, and guys that can actually shake a defender.

 NFL.com has San Fran:
#1 pass defense @ 150 yds/gm

#6 rush defense @ 87.2 yds/gm

Their opponents so far have a combined record of 9-21, so take that for what it's worth (they can only play who's been put on the schedule). But the 49ers look solid. Should be a playoff caliber match up.
