Kyle Allen's numbers

lightsout

Recommended Posts

We know the basic rundown. 4-0 record, 901 yards, 7 TD, 0 INT, 106.6 rating, 56.3 QBR.

But here are some interesting numbers and where he is among other QBs right now.

TD % (percentage of TDs thrown per attempt): 5.7% which is good for 9th in the league.

Yards gained per attempt: 7.4 (14th in league)

Adjusted yards gained per pass attempt (factors in yardage per TD and INT): 8.5, good for 7th in league

Yards gained per completion: 11.3 (16th, right behind Cam at 11.4)

5th in league in rating, 12th in QBR.

All stats per pro football reference.

Now the above is to illustrate that Allen is not only playing well and putting up impressive numbers for a second year player, but that he is playing at a much higher level than many here will have you believe.

I think Cam will get the start when he is deemed healthy, but the numbers above say that Cam BETTER ball because this season determines if he plays in Carolina after this season is done.

We know this because I tried to compare Cam's numbers for a season when he was healthy and the team did well, 2017....it wasn't good. Cam was middle of the pack to very bottom of the league in almost every stat.

Does the above mean Allen will continue to trend his numbers up? Does the above mean Cam won't come back to dominate? No to both, however, statistical trends tell you something and you better believe that Tepper is looking at stuff like this very closely.

Fumbles per game? Yards per game? Touchdowns per game? Rating vs Blitz?

Fumbles per game: 1.5 (tied second most)

Yards per game: 225

TDs per game: 1.75 (Russell Wilson is at 2.3, to give you an idea where he stacks up.

PFR doesn't provide numbers vs blitz

So wait, where does 225 yards and 1.75 TD/game put him within the league? What is he ranked.

I did the math myself on him. Those numbers weren't listed (they're literally number/games). I don't feel like running through every QB in the league. Might do the top 10 though and see, just to give reference points

Some other #s

- has yet to have to come from behind and "win" a game.  With a team with a top D and elite RB carrying the team

- 4-0 vs teams with a combined 6-11-1 record

- including 2 road games (1 being the Cardinals)

Yes this team has been great while he's been in.  But he hasnt had to face any pressure, win games.  And in a offense that the guy (some are saying shouldnt come back when he is 100%) was having better Numbers than his NFL MVP season

Kyle is doing what we all prayed for.  A backup that wouldnt come in and lose us games.  We have the talent around to win some games with a QB who does enough to not lose the games.

It has been 4 weeks but its still early.  Matt Moore started out 4-1 and people started thinking he could be the future QB1.

Let him get through SF and face some games where the OL is struggling, the Run game is shut down, theyre down and he has to lift the team on his back and carry them to a win then we can have the discussion.

We're seriously discussing having a guy who has gone through a easy schedule not have to win games to replace a guy who was just having a MVP season prior to injury including lifting the whole team on his back in a 21 point 4th quarter comeback in Philly.

If he is still the starter After the GB game and we only have 1 loss.  We can have the discussion.  But lets not get ahead of ourselves

It cracks me up how posters have to walk around on egg shells to prevent triggering Cam loyalists. I know the main reason is that there are Panther fans who secretly have always hated Cam and are now taking advantage of Kyle doing well to bash Cam. So we've got some big fans of Cam who feel like they need to defend Cam and in turn downplay everything Kyle Allen does.

But let's all just chill tf out with the "he's just a decent back up" narrative. Most back ups cannot make the throws that Allen has been making. Dude has been downright impressive.

And yes, the team around him is playing lights out, but that shouldn't take away from what he has done through 4 games.

No, no, no, please post a video of a throw Kyle Allen has made that a backup cannot. I can find you a backup every fuging year that looks amazing for a stretch (way better than Allen mind you), and they almost always fizzle out. This is ridiculous.

First, i agree there is no reason to bench Cam right now if he is fully healthy.  He should be the starter, at least if he could become fully healthy before we get more data on Allen.

But, I think comparisons to Moore, Cassel, Flynn etc are all off.  Yes, some of those guys had decent starts as backups.  But none of them started 5 and 0 with no INTs.  Moore for instance, over his first five starts, threw 4 tds and 3 ints and was 3-2. He did rip off a nice win streak after that, but what Allen is doing, albeit with help, really is impressive IMO.

Allen really has been special for a young qb making his first starts, and will undoubtedly grow. I am really excited about him.  But Cam to start last year was so good that if he is truly healthy, he will give us the best shot at a deep run.

    • I don't think Rodgers but probably not for the political reasons I bet a lot of posters are motivated by. I just think he is not the QB for the Panthers, at all.
    • Sun Devils just scored another TD on BYU, 14-0
    • It wasn't great but  the 2022 NYG won 9 of 16 games plus a playoff game. He had a 92.5 passer rating. 15 pass TDs 3200 yards, 7 rushing TD, 700 yards 6 fumbles 3 lost.  His first season he had 18 fumbles lost 11. Wow.  Anyhow he had problems in 2023 with injuries and didn't win poo before tearing his ACL. This year, no Barkley, not good, but you know.... these ACLs take a while and it was right and he throws right so pushes off of it.  I agree it doesn't hurt to let that guy compete cheap. You don't hand him the job like with Bryce or NYG with him.  When I look at what we have been saddled with, he doesn't look worse and has the physical advantage. So I don't get the umbrage given our situation. This "No we won't settle for anything less that the best" attitude and then taking Bryce Young was pathetic and I think that attitude brought us to where we are. That's where that poo gets you. Away from Mayfield, away from Darnold, even away from PJ - just to replace them with an inferior PJ.  At the same time I am not really advocating for the guy just looking at it objectively. It could be another guy with the same story. And yes the odds of him getting it are low but the numbers and performance from 2022 are for sure better than we see with Bryce even after a season of major propping him up with better players around him. Take a look don't take a look he fails or he doesn't fail...   to instead sit here and be happier with what we have is bullshit.
