Someone else thinks Allen keeps the job

This isn't about the CBA. You're just viewing this from one perspective failing to understand that withholding one's playing services IS a firm of leverage, as is refusing to sign and thus denying a team of your trade value. That's why the Steelers gave Villanueva a multi-year, multi-season contract when per the CBA he had no leverage because he was tied to the Steelers. While it was true that he was tied to the Steelers, it wasn't true that he had no leverage.

Another thing about Villanueva is he had several serious options outside of football completely. He was an army ranger, lived around the world and was at Carnegie Mellon business school at the time. He had a realistic and believable threat of walking away from football entirely which did indeed give him leverage. As far as we know about Allen, football is his life and there aren’t really other realistic options.

Every half decent QB is getting 40 million now;  even Dak will get 40 million dollars.

#FakeNews

The truth is no quarterback is being played more than $35 million this year and only 6 are being paid $30 million or more.

If the Panthers were to trade Newton, the word "apocalypse" comes to mind with regard to this board.

Depends on 1) what we get for him 2) whether we keep on winning or not 3) where he goes 4) how he does with the new team.

How many Army Rangers or Carnegie Mellon biz school grads rake in anywhere close to even a (by NFL standards) measly $700k-ish ERFA salary? And that's with the likelihood of a helluva lot more down the road.

The bottom line is that he refused to sign and the Steelers ponied up because they valued the services of his play. Why? Because he had leverage. Withholding play at a valuable position is some nice leverage to have.

This. If we traded him then Kyle Allen pulled a Kase Keenum and fell flat on his face while Cam went elsewhere and returned to form or close to it... holy poo.

Some Buc fans were discussing whether they should go after him earlier on their board.

(can't see that happening)

Not everyone makes career decisions solely based on money. Recently we’ve seen several young stud players retire and go do something else with their lives rather than risk their health in the NFL. Maybe some aspire to bigger things than being an athlete. Not all have that choice.

The Steelers didn’t pony up, they got him on a very cheap longer term deal which benefitted them more than just keeping him on the one ERFA deal. They made the smart football decision because it was presented to them. Alli actually made a poor financial decision signing that deal, he could’ve made so much more.

He also could've blown out his knee and never been the same again. Both sides had leverage and they both used it and agreed to terms acknowledging the leverage the other side had. That's how negotiations work.
