I don't think we can bench Kyle Allen...

I din't read every post but if Allen played every game like in Arizona, then yes leave him in. But a healthy Cam gives us another major weapon with experience for the playoffs. Gotta give him a shot. Now if it's with 2 or 3 games left in the season, then you might have to stay with Allen if he's still winning most games and not "losing"games.

How certain are you that he's up to doing that anymore, though?

And even if you do believe he can do it now, how much longer?

One of my guiding questions is always whether one of them do what the other cannot. In this case, that can be answered both ways.

Ultimately though, I think you have to compare Newton and Allen within Norv Turner's system. And based on what we've seen the last few weeks, there's a pretty good argument to be made that this factors to Allen's advantage.

Look at Cam's numbers last year before the Steelers game. I'm not sure there actually is a good argument for Allen.

I don't know if Cam can get back to his 2015 form, but if he can even get back to 75% if that he's our best QB.

...the kid throws a really nice accurate catchable ball hitting WR's in stride... for the most part.... hes doing a good job managing the 10 yard move the chains...i'd talk some sht but...it wouldnt be too popular.

He strikes me as a good game manager who doesn’t turn it over. I can’t picture him engineering a huge come back with his own talents. He’s operating well in our system and spreading the ball around to play makers.

However, he doesn’t strike me as a talent that could carry you to the mountain top. Unless it’s like the two Ravens Super Bowls where the qb is just asked not to lose the game.

It's kind of hard if you have to keep appealing to what Newton was though, even if you're only talking about last year.

Also throw in that Allen isn't necessarily even as good as he can be yet. I know I wanted to see improvement. Today I saw it. Heck, I'm rewatching that 99 yard drive now and it's something else.

Ultimately we're debating about whether or not Newton can still be what he used to be vs what Allen is becoming and/or can be.

That's a tough argument.

The Bucs offense gave us a loooooot of help today.

I want to see what happens when we play a more complete team.

The excuses we afforded Cam seem to have disappeared or were overcome by a team effort. After starting 0-2 to start the season, both at BOA, we've won 4 straight... 3 road games. It is what is.

This same logic can be applied to Teddy Bridgewater and the Saints

See I don’t know. Brees hasn’t ever looked “off”. I do think regardless of who your quarterback is you stay with the hot hand. If CMC went down and his back ran for 100+ every game for 4-5 weeks we undoubtedly see CMC’s touches decline.

So, we can't look at what Newton was doing a year ago and we're forced to only look at what he was doing playing on one leg?

really not a comparable situation Cam’s played for the jaguars about as long as Foles has.

That’s fair, but Foles has a Super Bowl. Right now Jacksonville treats Minchew like the second coming of Christ. I did find it interesting during today’s broadcast, that Todd Bowles stated that it was harder to prepare for Carolina with Allen than with Newton. He felt the entire playbook was at Norv’s discretion. I’m not sure I agree, but I do think Cam is limited, not just his foot. The fact that he no longer throws deep is a huge problem.

You can look at it.

But can you guarantee he can still do that?

To be perfectly clear though, even last year he was playing on a hurt shoulder. That's officially "cleaned up" now, but do we know for sure how much we can even count on that?

So yeah, it's fair to look at what Newton has been capable of, but given that you can't de-age him or remove any lingering effects of injury, it's also fair to question whether he still is capable of it.
