I don't think we can bench Kyle Allen...

Oh I’m not saying at all he should be judged on one game. But the totality of his season gave me very little reason to believe he could carry this team to a win if they got down early. He’s done some great things, and has come back from some tough circumstances on several occasions. I like how he bounces back from things, like some of the fumbles he had, typically responding with scoring drives.

Today was a litmus test. He didn’t pass it, but neither did the team. It’s certainly not his fault the defense took a giant dump over the first 20 minutes. We previewed this game all week, and we told everybody if this turned into a pursuit from behind game, it would be ugly. You can’t let San Francisco get up on you that much that early. I don’t care who the quarterback is, but especially with inexperience at the position.

And this is not necessarily the end. There’s no new definitive timetable on cams return. Nor should the team feel any need to speed up the process. It’s definitely time to start looking in that direction, but by no means do they need to rush anybody back. So, fans need to get their mind right and support this quarterback for another week at least.

I dont believe in litmus tests.

We're still talking about a guy with only about six games of starting experience. If you went back and looked at the first six games of any number of quarterbacks, I doubt you'd find enough to make much of a conclusion on any of them.

When it comes to evaluating quarterbacks, I still stick to the same three questions I've mentioned before.

1) Are they good?

That one's been answered. The answer is yes.

2) How good?

Still not answered yet. He's had performances where he's looked amazing, performances where he's looked just good enough, and today. Thus, that answer is still up in the air.

3) How long is he going to be good?

Can't really answer that one until you answer the second one.

I don't buy that we know what Allen is yet because I don't even think Allen knows what Allen is yet. I know we all want to know, and we all want to know right now, but there's some things you just can't rush.

When Allen has a good game, we say the only thing that matters is his QBR, his 0 INTs.  His "hot hand".  How he has played so far.

When Allen has a bad game?  Well, obviously this is a small sample size.  We shouldn't look to much into it.  Plenty of top tier QBs have horrible early games.

The hypocritical stance is hilarious.

I am curious on what people think Cam would have done today? Only thrown two interceptions? There was absolutely zero room, pressure every pass, and we couldn't stop any zone runs or motions. That being said, Cam vs Tennessee is the right idea, the momentum is gone, and we need something to reignite that fire before we sink into our own faults.

He would've managed the pocket more efficiently and put up a fair fight rather than a complete blowout.

The chances of winning significantly increase with him in the lineup. He has experience pulling shootouts in pressure filled conditions, and I'd rather have him over Kyle for that possibility.

Now, the 49ers were more likely to win given their overall level of play today. Even so, doesn't mean Cam wouldn't have been a better chance.

My opinion on Allen didn’t change because of this game. He’s the same QB I thought he was. The only difference is how wild those throw got late in the game. Dunno if he was just rattled or rushing the throws because of the pressure, but he couldn’t hit the broad side of a barn the second half. He’s young though. He starts until Cam is completely ready.  Don’t rush Cam because Allen had a bad game against a really good defense.

I actually do think a healthy Cam would have had a chance. A lot of their points were due to turnovers and short fields after quick Panther possessions. We could have very well still lost, but we would have had a chance.

I said two things in the preseason:

1. Allen was always the clear number 2 QB. He could come in and manage the game situationally, if called upon.

2. If any of the back up quarterbacks had to play for an extended period of time, the playoffs would be out of the question.

When Newton hurt that stupid foot in stupid New England, that killed so much momentum. I realize Buffalo came to town and completely overwhelmed Carolina at camp, because I was right there watching it. They absolutely steamrolled the OL. But a healthy Newton looked fantastic in Spartanburg. Physically, and emotionally, he was on fire.

Just like 2014, a goddamn preseason game in New England set him back for the first half of the season.

Kyle’s done what he can do, given what was handed to him. Ridiculously inconsistent OL, limited NFL experience, etc. He cashed in on some turnovers from the defense, and didn’t throw one interception until today. 5-1 as a starter. Even after today, a 10/3 touchdown to interception ratio. Fumbles were horrific, but he hasn’t fumbled over his last two starts.

They absolutely can’t rush Cam back. Fans are  just gonna have to chill the hell out and keep rolling with Kyle until Cam is 110% ready.

This would’ve been a terrible game for Cam to come back. They would’ve lost, because the defense would’ve done no better. Cam would’ve presented different dynamics, but there’s no guarantees his throws would’ve been any more accurate. His reads probably would’ve been a little sharper, but still, the last time I saw him throw passes was in person at close range against Tampa, and it was horrible. And for good reason.

In second half he had to lead a comeback and that involves deep throws, taking more risks.  He was in the mindset that the only way to win now is to get a quick score otherwise the game is over.

Kyle Allen has the same problem now that he had before the 49ers game.  Holding the ball too long, not stepping up in the pocket, not knowing when to throw the ball away, reading half the field, its basically the same problems all young QB have.  Guys like Cam and Watson have gotten away with it because they can run.  Kyle is not that kind of athlete so he can't.  He has to be better prepared and more aware of everything around him than guys like that.  So when you come up against a really good defense, games like this don't happen.  He is not to that point yet.  Some guys never are and in other guys it just takes time.  Hopefully Kyle can figure these things out at some point in the future but just not this year.  The only way he is going to improve on these kind of things is to play more because coaches really can't teach you that kind of stuff.

Yea I’m not talking about risky throws. I’m talking about throws that were 5 yards off target

Kyle Allen reminds me of a poor man’s Drew Brees. He has talent, he has trouble seeing over the LOS. That type of QB just tries to throw to a spot. Drew Brees will be in the Hall of Fame because of that very thing. He does hold the ball too long, and there is plenty of tape on him now. He is still a good QB and he will be fine, whether that is playing for us or someone else.
