I don't think we can bench Kyle Allen...

I bench him and it's not that hard of a discussion. You HAVE to see what a healthy Cam looks like.. or what you cut him let him ealk.. the all-time leading mvp qb of the carolina franchise for an undrafted guy who has won 4 games with the defense and McCaffrey playing out if their mind?

I could be starting and just not lose these games.. Its not like Cam is super turnover prone.. he doesnt throw a lot of ints when healthy. He could manage these wins just as easily as kyle has.. the defense is getting 6-7 sacks and 2 interceptions in the past few games.

Kyle has performed great.. dont get me wrong. But can he win shootouts with the chiefs? Pats or eagles? Because that could be the defense between looking good till you get to the playoffs and a first round exit.  I'm sorry but a healthy cam is on another level than I wont lose the game for you kyle.. just cant.

He doesnt throw a lot of touchdowns either to offset those interceptions.  His turnovers seem to come at the worst time, like in the 4th quarter when we are down 7 and he overthrows an open receiver.

We don't know if Cam can do that either.

Newton used to be able to, but we don't know if he still can.

Allen might be able to but he hasn't been tested in that way yet.

(And to be fair even when he is, one game won't define him for good or bad anymore than it did Newton when he was just starting)

Ultimately, we don't know whether either of them can do it. The difference is just why we don't know.

We can't screw around getting in trouble in the standings, period. Allowing Cam to step in out of loyalty or because of his contract situation, very risky.

Cam can be goal line and short yardage specialist.

Okay that is cold, and I am not serious, but that is the only place he shows an obvious superiority, that comes to mind. That and arm strength if he hasn't lost it.

I know what I would do, while acknowledging that being on the outside means I don't have enough information. Having said that, I'd ride with Allen and make Cam win the job back. He has never had any competition to start in the NFL, maybe that would be good for his game.

make cam win the job back????????

this fanbase is deranged beyond repair

If Cam looks even mildly bad upon return, it will get kinda ugly.  Good situation for the franchise long term but it will be a funny pickle.

It will be interesting to see how Cam responds to this ordeal. He doesn’t strike me as the type to sit back and play second fiddle.

I just find it super interesting more than anything. One part of me says ride Allen until it’s obvious we need Cam again. The other is honoring Cam’s abilities and giving him the his role back.  We will see. I will not premature with my opinion here.

doesn't really send a good message to the rest of the team if you bench kyle for cam just because cam says he's healthy

also, ron is notoriously aware of the politics of his moves. if he benches cam and he struggles for two weeks and the panthers lose like they did weeks 1 and 2, that won't be a good look.

it's a shitty situation all around

My answer to that would always be screw the politics and play whoever gives you the best chance to win.

That may or may not be Rivera's answer, though.

Allen is a game manager. Can is a playmaker. One is safe. The other is risky. One will score a few points but also make few mistakes. One will score more points, but may make more mistakes.

Which do you roll with?

Who do you want if the defense can't contain the other offense? That's the guy I go with. That's going to be Cam, imo.

Mistake free ball is nice. Points are better.
