CAP winding up there is meh whatever. He was a late round pick that we got 3 or 4 years out of as a serviceable if unspectacular backup. Not exactly finding gold but not exactly a huge bust. But Ealy, yeah that's a 2nd rounder that you never got anything meaningful out of winding up in the barnstorming league. That's kind of embarrassing ain't it Dave? Maybe if you had handled letting Steve Smith go like a man, the football gods wouldn't have humiliated you this way, just sayin.

Agree with you about Smith, but more than half of all second round picks are out of the league after 4 years.  I doubt Gettleman will lose any sleep over it.

Well given the average career length in the Not For Long league, how long before he was out of the league isn't really the point I was making. It was more the fact he never amounted to anything meaningful as a 2nd rounder, where you do expect to be drafting a starter for your team for some length of time. Ealy not only never made starter, he never amounted to much of anything. And now he's in the pro football version of the Washington Generals. Gettleman might not lose any sleep over it, but I'm not missing the chance to rub it in a little bit cause of the way he handled Smitty.

I'm sure he'll read this. He knows who I am.

My point is that more than half of second round picks don't amount to much.  Heck Ealy had a great superbowl, and that alone places him above the average second pick.  

But yeah, Gettleman mishandled Smith and Norman, and a few others as well.  His cutting Smith actually cost us money, and he put perhaps the worse secondary in our history on the field the year after the superbowl, so he definitely deserves some criticism.  I wonder how long it will be before Giants fans tire of him.  Although the pick of the Dukie appearst to be a good one, so that might buy him some time.

Kony had every characteristic of a second round pick. He just didnt work out. It wasnt a bad pick. Hard to know the person doesnt  have the intangibles to succeed. He had all the tangibles. As someone with questions about Gettlemans handling of things that one doesnt make the list at all for me.

Kony isn’t a bust to me simply because of that super bowl game. He would’ve won mvp if we won. I just think of it like we didn’t sign him to a second contract. And we got a higher round pick for him with a trade.

CAP was never suppose to be anything other than depth and he hung around for a decent career. Ealy was a bust and every team misses.

He want because he's making terrible picks for the Giants now. His drafts were as good or worse than Hurney. Add in that he was delicate as a butcher knife in negotiations and you had a terrible mixture.

It’s insane to think that The name Kony Ealy would be forever etched into nfl and Panther lore had we won that super bowl. He would have easily won MVP and when the topic of most dominant individual defensive performances comes up every February, his name would be mentioned.
