If Christian McCaffrey Is The NFL’s MVP, Why Aren’t The Panthers Better?

And if we put McCaffrey alongside the 13 backs to win the AP Most Valuable Player award since 1970, he compares favorably. McCaffrey ranks third in rushing and receiving yards through five weeks, and he’s first in total yards from scrimmage.

Meanwhile, Carolina’s rushing attack ranks 16th in expected points added, despite the large workload McCaffrey has shouldered. Somewhat shockingly, the part of the offense for which McCaffrey plays such an outsized role has contributed negative 1.54 expected points added to the team’s total offensive production. His 274 yards receiving may help mitigate the rushing losses, but the Panthers’ middling 3-2 record is probably best explained by the performance of their seventh-ranked defense rather than McCaffrey’s exploits.

And there are still other reasons to question McCaffrey’s MVP candidacy. For instance, it’s unclear whether he’ll be able to stay healthy operating under such a heavy workload. McCaffrey left last week’s game against Jacksonville because of cramps, and he missed practice Wednesday with a back injury.1

Goes on to surmise that even if he has great stats he will not win MVP if the panthers are mediocre. Shrug...

MVP generally goes to the best player on the best team.  You basically have to ignore what MVP actually stands for.

CMC has best odds right now for OPOY

this...the guy writing the article is a moron. we are 3-2 because we had 2 stupid fumbles against the Rams and because Cam was playing on 1 foot against the Bucs. at no point have we played a game so far where we were simply outclassed or outtalented

QB of the best team in the league that's not a defensive front team.

Do we really think these awards mean anything?

Do you really think that Bruce Arians and Ron Rivera should have won coach of the year over Bill Belichick EVER?

Yeah, 2015

Pats are 6-0 and although Brady is not having great stats, he'd probably get the MVP at this point.  Just because he is over 40 and Brady

The NFL is trying to gift them the perfect season. “Owner gets a handie, lets give them everything.” I really wonder what Kraft has on Goddell.

@GOOGLE JIM BOB COOTER *epic facepalm*

we put him in the slot. If you put him outside you take the entire X factor away.

That said putting him outside for 1-2 snaps a game just to fug with defense, we do that already. A lot more last year then we have this year. But he’s a RB not a WR, most CB’s could just reach over him and snatch the ball before he even gets a chance this day and age.
