I strongly believe you don't have to be a great player on the field to be a great coach.

You can know what to do in every situation, and have proper technique..just not have the physical gifts needed to execute and be a mediocre player.

Coupled with so many things about coaching not being playing related (previously mentioned ways of motivating others, communicating, etc), and being a good coach or not has little to do with being an effective player on the field.

Not really surprising IMO. Most of the great players don't make the best coaches and it is usually the average players that make the best coaches.

Good for him.

This is true.  The reason?  The underachievers have to learn technique and prepare mentally when the others have difficulty teaching what came naturally to them---they relied less on coaching when they were players.

Do as I say......not as I do

And what do you do?

E. Brown (we met him as a rookie) is one of the most likeable people I have ever met.  He was respectful, good speaking to my children, and was truly appreciative.

which always makes it a bummer when guys like that don't wind up having the physical tools to succeed at the pro level. Glad he seems to have found his niche in coaching.
