I don't think you can take external factors into account. The only thing that really should matter is who gives you the best chance to win.

If Newton is healthy and he's had sufficient practice time, then I believe you play him. If he lays an egg or gets hurt again, you deal with it.

Honestly, the second part scares me more than the first. He was "healthy" going into the third preseason game as well.

Getting healthy and staying healthy are two different things.

He’s going to be rusty coming back and that’s understandable. All of you: the haters, the “fanboys”, the racists, the indifferent, need to understand and accept that. 

They’re the number 2 defense in the league right  now. But if he’s healthy he needs to play simply because that’s what he gets paid for. If we have to protect a franchise qb from a good defense then we have bigger problems to discuss.

If he's really 100%, then I want Cam to start every time. I would love to see him come back and drag four defenders five yards for a first down, or burst through the line into the end zone on a 4th and 1. If he plays like 'first half of 2018 Cam,' with the offensive weapons and defense we have now? We should be slaughtering teams.
