Van Roten mic'd up vs JAX

I wanted Moton at LG with Van Roten as our #1 back-up for the iOL. Not just due to skillset, but because I thought he might be the better player-coach on the line to do so. GVR seems more than capable though and i love seeing him helping bring the young guys along.

I always find it neat when we get a better idea of why exactly a player is valued so much more by the staff than the fanbase.

He keeps improving and with the work effort he has, there's going to be an excellent LG there. Glad to see the video, sure does make him a likable guy. He's showing quite an understanding of how the job is done and seemed like he was working well with both Daley and Paradis. That kind of unit gelling is going to be soooo important as the season goes on.

And he and his buddies aren't getting nearly enough credit in our running game.

The other piece of the puzzle here is that if our run game continues to gash huge holes in opposing defenses, it should create more opportunities for play action.  Honestly, if our offense is running the ball for 200+ every game, I wouldn't want to defend us - especially with CMC's ability to take even the smallest crease and turn it into a long TD.

It simply cannot be overstated how important that addition to his game has been.  He's been great the last couple years, don't get me wrong, but being able to break a game open with long TD's is another thing entirely.  Have you seen how our defense gets pumped up when he does that?  It's amazing what having home run hitters does for your team.

I dont know if I want my OL on an open mic. Like.. how secure are these recordings? We usually only see the highlights of their games but somewhere, the entire game is recorded along with our oline adjustments, ext

I may just be trippin here tho

Everything on the field is recorded with tv mic technology. The player doesn’t have to be micd up to hear what’s going on the huddle.

ESPN years ago on MNF/SNF (not sure which is was then) showed that they had directional mics on the sidelines, end zones, and on the rope above the field. You shouldn’t be concerned about a player being mic’d up.

plus when players are mic’d up they turn off these mics when players are in the huddle.

Van Roten's "entire career" in the NFL prior to the Panthers didn't really include a whole lot of time at guard. He appeared in 10 games with Green Bay back in 2012 and 2013 where he played mostly on special teams. In the two years prior to joining us, he was playing in the CFL.

What point are you trying to make? Are you just being nitpicky on semantics? Obviously I’m referring to the meaningful part of his career playing o-line for us...not Special Teams and his CFL stint lol.

Besides, I would hope that we judge players based on how they perform for us...not with other teams/coaches/schemes. Otherwise Mario Addison is meh, Paradis is one of our top o-linemen, Graham Gano would still be judged by his FG% on the Redskins 10 years ago...oh wait...

So far he has played next to the great LTs of our generation: Chris Clark and Daryl Williams, plus two rookie LTs in back to back weeks for their NFL debuts. Playing next to 3 different LTs of any caliber in a 5-game stretch is a tough task for a LG, at a position that relies so heavily on cohesiveness, synergy, gelling, etc.

Van Roten is playing really well in run game and decent in pass game.  This is what was lost with not having two a day practices.  Lineman really need that time and extra practice to work on their craft.  O-line is the biggest position where a coach can teach you something new all the time.  You learn so much and then have to implement it as well as the gameplan and that is extremely hard.  I can only imagine at the NFL level.

GVR is playing better than the way he ended last year. Funny cause he started off good too and then fell off the cliff. He had to be being playing though injuries cause he was the only player with 100% snaps played.

Not going to be fooled by a vid, still hes a FA at seasons end and teams are over paying OL. Daley maybe the future at LG, plus norwell could be back after jags cut him this off-season.

Could def see us signing Norwell if he gets cut. Worked once upon a time with Moose right?

Moose came back home after getting PAID, there is a out in Norwells' contract after this year. Most likely the jags with cut him, he is MORE than welcomed back.

Boston came back, Ginn came back.....and leftd again same for Captain..... but point remains you can come back home!
