Van Roten mic'd up vs JAX

GVR played a better game than the guy he replaced.

Must have been a dozen times at least that he managed to block a second defender, on a single play.  That's hard work there.

I lied the way he called out 44 (their top LB, Myles Jack), and then proceeded to eliminate him from the play.  He and Paradis are forming a tight unit of combo blocking.

GVR is an incredibly smart and hard working player, just physically overmatched at times.

He has been very durable in his time here which is a major positive. IIRC, he is the only Oline who didnt miss a snap last year.

He will never have the physical talent of someone like Trai Turner, but Turner is seeming to become more and more injury prone.

In a position where continuity and chemistry is paramount, he is doing his part.

Hope he does as well this week as he did against Jacksonville. Going to have his hands full with Suh, Vea, and Barrett.

I think Van Roten is one of those players that the Huddle grossly undervalues because they have no idea how to evaluate o-line play and had already just decided that he’s bad. He’s had to play next to terrible LTs for virtually his entire career.

Van Roten's "entire career" in the NFL prior to the Panthers didn't really include a whole lot of time at guard. He appeared in 10 games with Green Bay back in 2012 and 2013 where he played mostly on special teams. In the two years prior to joining us, he was playing in the CFL.

    • I don't care about offensive production for a team that literally only threw to him and the running back. I care about what I see on film:   Dude cannot separate on his own against talented LBs/S and had to be schemed open; his route running is below average; while pretty athletic, he doesn't have elite athleticism or speed; his blocking form has quite a few red flags (dude should be a dominant run blocker for his size). He was talented enough to get open in college against a slower LB/S; that won't be the case in the NFL. Not to mention, the dude pretty much was nonexistent until this year for Penn St. If I am drafting a TE in the top 10, choosing a 5th year senior that didn't do anything until his last season should be pretty alarming. Not saying he is going to be a bad player - I think he will be a solid short/intermediate possession TE in the NFL. I just don't understand the logic of taking him top 10
    • No one is arguing where we were on the season.  After the benching Bryce was one of the top deep ball passers in the league.  It's a skillset he has just shown he is capable of doing.  I believe he led the league in week 12 and was one of the top ones for that final quarter.  Dance around the topic and argue the stats all you want, I'm just going by what I saw on TV and read about.   https://x.com/PattonAnalytics/status/1877044086709854343 https://www.si.com/nfl/panthers/news/bryce-young-best-against-pressure-throwing-deep Hey it surprised me as well, but I'm not going to hide my head in the sand and try to ignore what is clearly right in front of me.  People have a hard time admitting their original thought may have been wrong.  That's just the world we live in.  We will see if Young can keep it up next year or not, but signs are point to DC running his offense regardless of who is QB.
    • You are right, but as of late there has been more rookie TEs making immediate impact on teams. McBride, Laporta, Kincaid and obv Bowers.  My true opinion is the team has so many holes they can go multiple directions including Safety. So it just comes down to out of all the talent in the draft who will make the immediate impact. Wr? TE? LB?
