Ron Rivera vs Dan Quinn

On the same day that someone has made a thread demanding Rivera's firing, I thought it was worth highlighting a point that might put things into perspective.

Both Rivera and Quinn came into the season on the hotseat with horribly underachieving defenses and made the decision to take over play calling duties.

Rivera has turned this defense around into a top 10 unit. Quinn's Falcons have been a nightmare and just allowed 53 points to the same team that the Panthers held to 10 last week. Let's give our guy some credit.

Watson had the game of his career on them.  5TD-0 Int, nearly perfect passer rating.

Rivera is a great defensive play caller and leader of men. The big knock on him is that he is overly loyal to his coaches and players. He is willing to keep a player or coach a year or two past their expiration date. He let Eric Washington run the defense when it was obvious that he wasn't ready after 10 games. Shula should have been fired after 2016 season and not been allowed to coach CMC during his rookie year. Captain Munnerlyn, Mike Tolbert, Jonathan Stewart, etc. were done way before they were finally released.

I don't have a problem giving Rivera credit. One of my problems with him is how he simplifies or style of play when we'r get a lead. Granted,  that hasn't been often this season but it changes the momentum.

In addition the style of defense we play, weak zone, bend may break while we wait for them to make a mistake defense.

Also our weak offensive play callingby the great Norv Turner, Barkley using the WR's.
