SERIES AND OTHER RECORDS

·         Carolina is now 4-3 against the Jaguars in the all-time series.

·         The Panthers have now won three consecutive matchups with Jacksonville, having won in 2011, 2015 and 2019. The Panthers’ last loss to the Jaguars came at Jacksonville in 2007.

 

RIVERA’S RECORD

·         Carolina head coach Ron Rivera recorded his 74^th career regular season win today to become Carolina’s all-time winningest head coach.

·         Rivera has a career record of 74-58-1 (.560) passing the previous franchise mark for wins held by John Fox who compiled an overall record of 73-71 (.507) from 2002-10.

 

McCAFFREY RACKS UP YARDS

·         Running back Christian McCaffrey recorded 237 yards from scrimmage against Jacksonville, tying his own franchise record, previously set vs. Seattle in 2018.

·         McCaffrey joins Thurman Thomas (1991) as the only players to record at least 500 rushing yards and 250 receiving yards in their team’s first five games of a season in NFL history.

·         McCaffrey totaled a career-high tying three touchdowns – two rushing and one receiving.

·         McCafrrey’s 84-yard touchdown run is the longest run in franchise history.

·         McCaffrey entered Week 5 with the most yards from scrimmage by any NFL player this season. Through the conclusion of this week’s early games, McCaffrey ranked first in the NFL in 173.2 scrimmage yards per game. 

 

BURNS TAKES ONE BACK

·         Rookie linebacker/defensive end Brian Burns recovered a fumble by Jaguars quarterback Gardner Minshew in the second quarter, and returned the ball 56 yards for a touchdown.

·         It marked the first fumble recovery for touchdown by the Panthers since Week 5 of 2018 vs. the New York Giants when Colin Jones recovered a fumble on a punt return in the end zone.

·         It also marked the first defensive fumble recovery for a touchdown since Week 12 of 2017 at the New York Jets when Luke Kuechly returned a fumble by Jets quarterback Josh McCown 34 yards for a score.

·         Burns added a strip-sack in the game, pushing his season total to 3.5.

 

ADDISON ADDS TO SACK TOTAL

·         Mario Addison recorded a strip-sack of Jaguars quarterback Gardner Minshew in the second quarter, that was returned by Burns 56 yards for a touchdown.

·         The strip-sack pushed Addison’s sack total to 6.5, the second most in the NFL through the conclusion of this week’s early games.

 

KUECHLY OVER 1,000

·         With a game-high 12 tackles (press box stats) Luke Kuechly passed the 1,000-tackle mark for his career. He has 1,004 since entering the NFL in 2012.

 

ALLEN MOVES TO 4-0

·         Kyle Allen completed 17-of-30 pass attempts for 181 yards and one touchdown in the victory against Jacksonville.

·         He is the first quarterback in the Super Bowl era to go 4-0 without throwing an interception in his first four career starts.

Ron is a mediocre coach with amazing players. They bail him out more often than not.

This!  I mean think about it. Luke might be the best MLB of all time. Smith and Peppers for a few years, Cam, Olsen is one of the better TEs. These are Hall of Fame players and he can’t have back to back winning seasons....

I follow that over the past 20 years, only one guy who won "Coach of the Year" won a Super Bowl (it was Belichick).

Other guys who won it later wound up fired. One of them, who is also a two-time winner, is now coaching the Bucs.

Those awards are meaningless. Championship trophies are all that really matter.
