Gano missed only 2 FGs last year before being placed on IR and nailed a 63 yard GW as time expired and people still wanted Gano gone. People wanted Gano gone before that. People just don't want Gano back and that's fine but keep that same energy with Slye instead of making excuses for him.

Same energy? Slye is a rookie and $15m+ cheaper.

Because he is 15M cheaper it's ok for him to miss kicks?

No but there's different set of expectations on a rookie vs a guy who's 30x more expensive and has been in the league for 10 years. It remains to be seen if Gano is that much better.

You talk like Gano is one of the better kickers in history or something. He's mostly middle of the pack. He isn't Adam Vinatieri, but even Vinatieri was replaced when the time came. The Patriots calmly drafted Gostkowski and kept it pushing. That's the reality of the business of football.

I do not believe Gano is the best kicker ever. I believe he is in the middle of the pack like you do. I never seen people make excuses for Gano like they are doing for Syle. He is a rookie I know and there will be missed kicks I know but it seems that certain people fail to realize the same thing with Gano.

You guys know Campbell is 6'8" and has blocked numerous kicks throughout his career right?  The line kept collapsing on the left side giving them a free runner from there too.  It's amazing that people come in here blasting the kicker when he wasn't the one letting people get free run to block it.

So, based on the $15M difference... a missed FG is okay for one and not the other?

FWIW, Slye was a 71% FGM guy at VaTech.

"Fugging Gano! For $15M, he doesn't need a holder. He should be able to take the snap, pancake any defensive players coming at him, heel a divot, place the ball and kick a 56-yarder with ease. He can't do that?!?! Fug him, cut hm and take the cap hit!"

Exactly. They are both being paid to kick and make FGs. How much we are paying each of them should not matter. He has 1 job to do and he failed to do that yesterday. All I am seeing is excuses, some of them plausible, for Sly. When Gano misses a kick, the world is ending.

Campbell is just a freaking tower of a man.

Ill reserve judgement until he gets the yips multiple weeks in a row or until we drive down the field on our first drive of the wild card game against the saints and have a 35 yd attempt to set the tone. If he misses that then I will be worried.

So if Slye goes 87% his rookie season and Gano averages 88% we should just stick with Gano huh? Forget the extreme cost difference?

Perceived double standards in the public perception of one kicker versus another doesn't have any kind of effect on the salary cap. Ultimately that's only where the difference matters when discussing performance. If it boils down to getting the same boom or bust performance, you aren't going to continue to pay someone at or near the highest at their position. That's where this hollering about Slye getting preferential treatment falls on deaf ears. If he isn't the guy we will bring in someone else to do his job next year. That's what winning teams concerned with winning championships do. I mean we're already facing tough questions about the future of other players, even Cam. Why all this hand wringing over the kicker position? There are more pressing matters.
