Whatever happened to our recievers not getting separation?

I haven’t looked at the separation stat rankings so I don’t know, but if true then slot receivers should be top heavy in these rankings. Are they?

I'll put it this way; there are a lot of slot WRs & TEs on the list.

Moreover, I don't exactly know what the OP was looking at, but Curtis Samuel & D.J. Moore are on their list a lot higher than we were led to believe.

Wurd. Thanks for the 411 bro.

*waves a bunch of gang signs that look suspiciously like ASL.*

I would think that intangibles are talent-driven.

Not really. Things that are intangible would be leadership, drive, etc. Wright has an excellent career catch percentage and his ability to get first downs is pretty incredible for his usage rate. He is better in those categories than either of our younger guys.

Moore and Samuel are more talented but Wright makes plays at critical times. That is something that goes beyond combine stats. I think Moore will eventually be a guy like that. I have my doubts about Samuel. TBH, Samuel seems like a guy that has issues with doing it when the lights are on. Hopefully I am wrong.

Possibly, but I've seen our QBs miss Samuel with what unfortunately seems to be regularity. And most are woeful under-throws which would likely be touchdowns. Happened last game as well. Samuel is behind the receiver, but has to slow down and/or come back and adjust for the ball.

I know I can't be the only one seeing this.

Not to mention there is no receiver that we've had since 89 that can create separation at the line like Samuel.

I am not saying that he might not have some missed opportunities but through two QB's he has not really been able to make the kind of impact that I think most of us thought given what we heard from training camp. Maybe it's just a slow start and he becomes dominant or maybe he just isn't the guy. Time will tell.

My point being that Wright is a play maker. Not to the extent of being an elite receiver but he fills a role and does so extremely well. That can't be said of Moore and Samuel yet, with more opportunities than he has. If this is still a conversation we are having in game 14, 15, 16, etc, then I think it is more of a concern going forward. Just a little surprised they aren't flashing more early.

You just can't overlook the QB play in that equation is all I'm saying. Hitting the check-down guy is great, but it's not going to sustain the offense over the long run. You have to take your shots, and you can't repeatedly miss the receiver and expect to hang with the big dogs in the postseason. Things will work their way out. And, like the list showed, Moore is not relatively that far off from Wright, and Samuel is even closer (according to NFL Next Gen Stats).

I wouldn't take those raw separation numbers and make the claim that Samuel is open all the time. As I said, he also has a low catch rate and leads the team in drops this season.

We will see and I will pay a little more attention to that specifically in future games to see if I come to the conclusion you have, which is that he is open often and Cam/Kyle aren't getting him the ball.

Cuz they are now and the ball is coming out quicker.

To be honest---they get separation at the break and then it closes---the fact that the ball is coming out quicker is the reason they suddenly started getting separation.

Some will attack me about that, but if you know football, you get it.

There is a big difference between throwing a pass to a WR who is breaking open than one who is open.  By the time the ball arrives, one is open, the other was open.
