Is Short a bust?

A bust? No.

Overpaid? Yes. Thats due to a lot of reasons.

He’s still a good player but plays better with good players around him. 2015 team made home shine. He got paid. Star left. His play has declined.

In essence his pay is going to hurt the team, especially now that he was extended. And just like CJ, I don’t expect him to return to 2015 form or be above average the rest of his career.

He’s Albert Haynesworth Jr

once he got paid he rolled over and played dead

  This is typically ridiculous.

His ONE sub par season(last year) he was still a top 20 DT. His play hasn’t regressed nearly as much as it is being made out to be.

The problem was drafting the replacement years earlier than we were suppose to, Shaq just now getting his shot on his 5th year option and Butler, even if he panned out, we’d still be paying short also

In Shaq's case I think they didn't expect TD to be as productive as he was as long as he was. Heck he's still going strong with the Chargers and he's past the point most linebackers are done. Those 3 ACL tears probably actually extended his career in a weird way because for 3 years he didn't get the wear and tear on his body of playing football, just had to rehab the knee.

If Butler had performed earlier, we would not have had to sign Poe. See before we signed Poe it was somewhat of a question if Butler was just stuck behind 2 starting DT's, but when we signed Poe it was a clear signal the coaches and front office didn't expect him to be able to take over as a starter. So Butler isn't really about Short, but about needing Poe to replace Star. But now he should get at least decent reps with Short out, so we'll see.

No he’s not a bust. But his career is probably coming to an end soon. He’s a sneaky 30 years old already. He’s declining fast just like Charles Johnson did. Big Money 2.0.

Drafting Butler was a good idea on Gettleman’s part, but he unfortunately Butler has been more of a bust than Short. But, Butler is only 25, one year older than the age Short game into the NFL. If he makes the most of this opportunity, he could be in for a nice payday himself.

This is where we are now? one sack and Butler could make us for get the other 4 years of trash and even consider us paying him?

I thought short and butler played the same position ? Poe plays a different position and was more so a star replacement.

I agree with td but you can’t spend a 1st on a lb who’s getting limited snaps, that was a waste of the resource, the 5 years we had Shaq and the final year of his contract is when he’s getting to show his muscle, we should have moved on from td earlier and gave the reigns to Shaq

I mean I guess it depends on how picky you get about there being different DT positions.  On Shaq, sure, but hindsight is always 20/20 right?

I give a little to hindsight, but 4 years is a lot.

I was told butler couldn’t play at star spot at dt, only reasons I mentioned it, I think that had more so to do with the Poe signing than butler underperforming

With Shaq, TD was part of it. But he was the product of a failed defensive concept. The “Big Nickel”. Something almost impossible in today’s NFL. No OLB is covering a slot WR. Especially lining up 5 yards away. When you have to play 70% with 3 CBs, It’s hard for him to play consistent snaps. Being in more read and react has really suited him.

Butler was a terrible overreaction to Fletcher Cox getting 6/103 and 65M guaranteed. I think he didn’t believe he could resign KK, and didn’t want to sign Star long term, and took a guy that he thought could play both. Problem is he isn’t nearly quick enough for a 3-tech and (despite his size) gets driven off the ball like he’s on wheels, so NT is no good either. Once he saw his mistake he signed KK. Butler really shouldn’t have anything to do with Poe, because they knew well before that he wasn’t capable of that.
