It's up to the coach to see that. Yeah, Cam realizes he should've owned up to the extent his injuries were impacting his play in hindsight but that's just not an athlete's mindset in the present.

have you ever played a team sport?   when you know your teammates are depending on you that's not the mindset at all, you tell your brothers the truth.    that's an athletes mindset.  and by the way the team looked sluggish as hell when he played - they knew the truth.  rivera knew, norv new.  that's why we didn't sneak in the bucs game.   plenty of blame for cam playing period, but it was immaturity on cams part

Agree to disagree. There's far more elite athletes wired like Cam than there are that are willing to acknowledge their own mortality and admit that just maybe they shouldn't be playing right now. Most are wired that if they can get medical clearance they're playing because that's always been the expectation.

he lied to get the clearance.  i am totally with you that ron, not just this time but in '16 as well, should have pulled the plug on it.   when we played sports, or at least me, i was an amateur.  cam is a pro.  peoples jobs and incomes depend on him - their bonuses, their contracts... there is a lot more riding on not being honest about not being able to plant and throw or run than what i think you're talking about.

by the way - appreciate the civility!

1. Cam will return and start as soon as he can scramble 100% and put a full week of practice in.

2. Cam was healthy if not for the stupid decision to put him behind a gelliing oline wich got his foot hurt and he should not have played the first 2 games after it was hurt.

3. You will see the difference in a healthy Cam vs Allen who finally has a really good team around him and hopefully by then the oline is gelling and Little is our LT with a little more experience.

4. This is my opinion but mark my words he will dominate and he will scramble.

Btw none of this is knocking Kyle Allen who is probably one of the best backups in the league but still a backup!

To be fair, even non-athletes often think they're invincible / immortal up to their late twenties or so.

Truth.

Hell, I never played organized sports beyond the high school level and was nothing special. I came down awkwardly after a rebound in basketball and felt multiple pops. Got up and tried to run and fell flat on my face because my ankle couldn't support weight. Coach had to call a timeout to get me out of the game. I'll play through it and it'll loosen up and I'll be fine. Nope. Got to the bench and the moment they untied my shoe my ankle blew up like a balloon. Severe high ankle sprain, done for the season.

As recently as a few years ago I kept snowboarding with torn ligaments in my knee. At 37 now, I'm finally accepting that I can't do that crap anymore and have to take better care of myself. But by this age, the vast majority of pro athletes have retired.

We had a discussion on here a while back where all of us who used to play sports talked about old injuries.

Most of us had something somewhere that still hurt or didn't work quite right :)

can you imagine where cam would be right now if rivera pulled the plug on him in '16 in meaningless games, and last year at game 11 or 12 and let him get his surgery, or this year where cam would be if he didn't trot him out there obviously hurt again.

My ankle is basically back to normal now... or maybe I'm just completely adapted to the new normal, but it took years. Had I been a pro athlete I would've probably had to have a ligament tightening procedure like Cam had a few years ago on his ankle. For years that ankle was a mild sprain just waiting to happen. I ended up spraining it countless times. Fortunately, spraining an ankle in a snowboard boots is practically impossible. You'll snap your lower leg before that boot gives enough to allow an ankle sprain.

I've torn my MCLs in both knees but honestly I can't tell any long-term effects from those.

I've get a knee and a couple of muscles in my lower back that occasionally like to remind me I mistreated them once. No major breaks but probably at least a half dozen bones that had hairline cracks in them at one point.

Apollo Creed was right. It's a shame we gotta get old.

Hilarious seeing posters who outright falsely accuse players of sabotaging their team because of their own selfishness also turning around and flailing about civility lol.

falsely?  flailing?   hilarious?   time to copy and paste some more stats bro.  but way to keep trashing the fans. super douchey
