What is the plan when Cam returns

Heard an interesting discussion on Sirius today about what we should expect when/if Cam returns.

Do they let him be the dual threat that DC’s hate to plan for?

Do they ask him to become more of a pocket passer and depend on CMC?

Cam won’t be able to run forever, he’s 30 and fighting injuries. I’m thinking the staff and even Tepper want to see Cam evolve into a pocket passer. Tepper isn’t handing out 30+ million to a guy who struggles in the pocket.

Cam was at his best when he is dual threat, using his legs to get those extra 4 or 5 yards on third down to get first.  I just don't see him getting back to his old ways.  And come on...honestly....how many times has he overthrown balls or simply missed too many open players, locking onto one WR and etc...  I've said this before....with Cam it is a fine line because if his mentality gets rocked early, he looks like he is pouting and checks out, almost like a Fug it I'm getting paid anyways attitude.  Flip side is if he is rockin and rollin his mentality is on cloud nine and he balls out.

Some here will tell you that Cam can be an elite pocket passer with nothing to suggest this whatsoever except 8 games where he was still a running threat so it doesn't exactly fit as evidence for Cam being a traditional pocket passer.

Cam without his legs is average. Simple fact. If Cam can't come back and be 2015-esque, we might as well stick with Allen. Unfortunately, Cam playing as violently as he does, he won't be worth a long extension IF he comes back and plays well enough to get us into the playoffs. Cam will not have a long career. By 35, Cam is likely out of the league due to injury. Just my opinion, which may get pooed all to hell.

got plenty to suggest this actually.

but anyhow, just curious on how cam isn't a pocket passer. when he's back to pass, isn't he not in the pocket passing? i can assure you his scramble rate has actually been one of the lower in the league.

designed runs? sure. but that doesn't mean squat when analyzing his ability as a pocket passer.

Unless he can run Cam is average at best in the pocket. Historically, teams have spied him to keep him from running and dared him to beat them with his arm. I can only imagine as he ages that will become even more the case until he isn't a running threat at all.

I told folks that he was going to have to transition into a pocket passer which is why we hired Norv to fix Cam. So far there have been too many injuries to know if it is working or not.

He was doing really well before he reaggregated his shoulder. Was on pace to  have a better year than 2015

If Kyle holds up, I really want to see at least one play with Cam and CMC both in the backfield.

Too hard to say.

How many games is he going to miss?

How many of those will be win?

Will Tepper make Ron start Kyle if we did win the majority of the games.

Let's say Cam misses 8 total games.  We go 4-2 over that span, and are now looking at 6-4 with a chance at making a run for the playoffs.  Ron starts Cam because "starters shouldn't lose their jobs to injury".  All well and good, I agree if Cam is 100% he goes back in.

Then we lose the next 2.  Now what?  6-6 needing to win 3 of the next 4 to have a shot at the playoffs.

If you bench Cam then, his time with the team is over.  He will clean out his locker at the end of the year, and will be a free agent after we release him.

That is the gamble if we are winning.

If we are losing, it won't matter.  He's 100% you send him out there and see if he can play football still.  If he can't he gets cut, if he can, and can make it through offseason workouts with a full throwing load, as well as training camp and the regular season next year with a full load, and you re-sign him to a long term contract, and you have your backups for the next couple seasons.
