Question: Without Cam is this a playoff team?

Are the Carolina Panthers of today a NFL Playoff contender? 

The formula they have now is a proven successful one. Strong defense, strong running game, game managing QB. 

But first...

Yes, I hope Cam comes back 100% and claims the NFL MVP Trophy just before hoisting the Lombardi. That is the ideal outcome.

But, if Cam just can't get right and we were to give Cam the entire season and offseason to heal up for 2020. Let us put Cam on the shelf and let him get back to MVP form. 

 

Is the team as it is now with Kyle Allen at QB a playoff contender?

I think the first 4 weeks speak for themselves. With Allen in at QB we’re very likely 4-0. Injured Cam the first two weeks was a liability. This D is legit, and the O has a ton of weapons. Not only can we be a playoff team with Allen, we can contend with him.

Defensively they appear to be a playoff team. A lot of it is going to depend on Kyle Allen’s play. But I believe they can get it done offensively as well.

I honestly don’t know yet. First quarter of the season is over. It’s a great problem to have, a quarterback that can make all the throws in this offense and hasn’t lost a start yet.

Maybe.  There's a lot of football left to play and they HAVE to win the NFCS to get in.  That's a tall order for this team at this point in the season.

I think it’s fair to consider them a contender at this point. Nothing is for certain, as we learned last Nov/Dec.

The defense is completely different this year. Last year, almost every game, they were giving up huge chunks in the passing game. It’s a complete reversal this year. That is a bigger factor than anything.

Too early to say. Like what I have seen from Allen so far but we’ve been playing scrub teams and the defense has been lights out.

It feels like it at this point, if Allen can continue to not make mistakes the defense is good enough to beat most teams

Texans were 2-1. Not world beaters, but hardly a scrub team either.
