Ross Cockrell appreciation thread

Really makes you think how good this secondary could be with Cockrell and Bradberry outside and Jackson at the Nickel

I was barking up that tree all camp long.  However, it was made out to be that I was implying Jackson couldn't handle the outside.  It was never about what Jackson couldn't do, it was about fit and Jackson is a natural fit at nickle and Cockrell being able to handle his business on the outside.  It just makes sense.

Lock him up man. People said I was crazy for posting threads before the season started about signing him to an extension. He is great depth at safety, N. CB, and the outside. He is still young and this game proved how valuable he can be as depth. We can still get him cheap, and depth in the secondary is valuable.

Again, I am stuck with looking at highlights.  But the first thing that caught my eye was him staying home on the gadget play.  Great discipline, great read, exactly like the defensive coaches draw it up....but not many DBs execute.

He had some good plays and some bad ones. Was in a great position on that dumbass play call from the Texans, but also got burned badly more than once on passes that wound up overthrown.

I'm definitely not a big fan of putting him outside against speed receivers.

Litterally the same could be said about Bradberry as well.  Hopkins had several steps on Bradberry twice on 2 deep passes that Watson put a few yards to far out for him or it wouldve been a TD

Most CBs minus the top 3 or so will give up a bad play now and then

He matches up poorly with speed receivers.

Put him outside on a regular basis and you're inviting a mismatch.

That said would you rather have Cockrell on the outside or covering the slot man?  Usually that's the speedster. I'll take my chances on the outside where he has the sideline to help him over a nimble guy working the middle of the field.

I'd like him not covering the speedster, wherever they might line up.

(at least Rivera isn't sticking to that dumb "left-right" corner scheme anymore)
