You gotta stop with this Hurney hate. What has he done since he came back that has been so awful? Gettleman made good and terrible moves too, and by your definition he was "qualified".

There's no hate involved. He just isn't good enough.

But I am amazed at how many people here are satisfied with "well he's okay" or "he hasn't screwed us up too badly yet".

It's like nobody remembers his first tenure.

Just for argument sake, let's say all the moves made since Hurney came back weren't made by Marty Hurney. They were made by some other GM that got hired that you consider "qualified". How would you feel about them then?

I remember it but I’m not convinced that a lot of the bad decisions were made by the man that employed him.  Like the contacts after the lockout, that was all Jerry.

That being said I don’t think Marty is gonna be our gm for much longer... and I agree that there are other more qualified candidates that a guy like $Tepper$ can attract.

One of the issues people have with Hurney is he didn't come up in a scouting organization but instead was a 'cap specialist' before being a GM. Gettlemen came up as a scout. That's usually what "qualified' is referring to.

As for the OP, the Panthers have some big decisions to make at the end of this year. I hope they make the right ones.

I would say that the jury is still out on his current stint.  So far the results are not trending upward.

I agree with Scott, Hurney has no business in his current role and never did.

But I don't see that at all.  I am not sure I have seen anyone give anything close to the statements you are making.

I strongly feel his off season moves were great.  We had extremely limited cap space, and a ton of holes.  We got quality signings, on 1 year deals, for cheap, allowing our drafted players time to grow.

He did more than "ok" or "didnt screw us up too badly" this off season.  I am struggling to find many ways he could have done better.

This is subjective at best.  It's way too early to say whether his moves add up in the win column.

I'll jump in.

Gano/Butker = Bad.

Extending Trai = OK so far.

Olsen extension = Bad.

Gano extension = Bad.

Getting investigated by the league = Bad.

No experienced backup to our hurt QB last season = Bad

Poe signing = Not looking great.

McCoy signing = May turn out OK, not sure yet.

Not extending Bradberry or Shaq = Bad. (Much prefer to extend the CB)

Kicking the can on KK and TT = Bad.  (a very classic Hurney move)

2018 draft = 1st and 2nd look good. (Gaulden looks like a really bad pick, no offensive linemen)

2019 draft = Jury still out.  (traded up, and that's normally a really bad thing with Hurney)

The only thing on the entire roster trending downward is Cam Newton. There is young talent all over the roster. If Kyle Allen pans out this team has enough talent to make the playoffs, and that's really all you can ask of the GM. Put enough talent on the field to win games, and he has done that.

Yes.  I thought the whole "I strongly feel" part gave away that it was a subjective statement.  Interesting it only needs to be pointed out that the statement is subjective if something positive is stated about Hurney.

This has actually been proven.  He sucks as a GM and I can't believe anyone claiming to be a Panthers fan would back that shitstain.

3-11. That's all you need to know.

Clearly a hater focusing on the bad here...some good stuff you missed.

Fleecing the Bills by trading Kelvin Benjamin for a 3rd round pick

Trading for Torrey Smith: Not that good on the field, but obviously had a huge impact on mentoring Curtis Samuel and DJ Moore, who are good players. Also got him to take a paycut to sign Gerald McCoy, and cut him at a good time to save money.

Eric Reid: Good

Jarius Wright: Good

Joey Slye: Good

Matt Paradis: Decent so far, decent replacement for Kalil

And how do you know he won't extend Bradberry or Shaq yet?? They are still on the team. This is some crazy level hate.

I think I will just step away from this conversation.

Painfully clear at this point people don't own dictionaries, don't know what they are talking about, and just hate Hurney.

Hurney could say "the sky is blue" and people would call for him to be fired based on not giving the exact shade of blue.
