From this moment forward — with Newton shelved — we could finally be seeing the pivot point that we have been waiting for under Tepper. The one that transitions the Panthers from being a lingering creation of previous team owner Jerry Richardson and puts it onto a track where Tepper transforms Carolina into whatever his football vision will be in the next decade and beyond.

Patience, Tepper has already came in and done a great deal of good since becoming owner, I’m ready to see what he’s like once the honeymoon stage is over.

Rivera imo has the biggest bullseye on his back and I think this “clean” house notion isn’t going to happen, Rivera and Hurney will be gone if things don’t work out and we will retool and evaluate cam from there. We aren’t going full dolphins mode

Fans are in a tough spot. Either Allen is our new QB and Rivera stays because of our playoff record or Allen sucks and Rivera get off on another Cam Newton injury. The only way Rivera gets fired is if both Cam and Allen suck so bad we lose too many games.

Hurney2.0 has been killing it. H1.0 had a great first round track record, historic even. H2.0 is now a total draft savant. How do you fire a guy after his best work having drafted a bunch of young future stars?

I can understand why people say Ron, Cam etc. but Hurndogs job performance should be judged on its own merit.

The offense belongs to Norv.  RR’s longevity rides with the defense.  IMO we have somewhere between the 10-12 best personnel.  If he can pull out a top 5-10 scoring defense,  and we make a good run at the playoffs, could keep his job.  Of course, as soon as Tepper identifies that 30 something analytics coach, RR could be gone despite anything we do on the field.

His job is to put together a roster that can compete for a championship. So far we were 7-9 last year and  1-2 now so......

I don't think you can separate Hurney and Rivera, but if you want to try, here's how I'd break it down:

Question: Has Ron shown that he can win consistently without Marty? 

Answer: Yes, actually. In fact, the most consistent in franchise history fell under the leadership of Head Coach Ron Rivera and GM Dave Gettleman.

On the flipside...

Question: Has Marty shown that he can win consistently without Ron? 

Answer: Neither with nor without Rivera, to be truthful. When paired with Head Coach John Fox (whom he hired) Hurney's rosters only managed three winning records over eleven seasons, with two of those coming at a time when the roster still had a heavy influence from previous Head Coach / GM George Seifert. Hurney did, of course still have full roster control for those years.

...

So yeah, if you have to pick one to keep, the smart play is to choose Rivera.

Of course, the even smarter play is to replace them both.

Most of the players during that run were Hurney picks, so...

Cam / Luke / Beason / Davis / Gross / Norman / Smith / Olsen / Addison 

Now there was a blend of DG draft talent and UDFA's like...

Norwell / Turner / Bradberry / CMC / Samuel /Short / Star

However most of DG's ''best'' picks had little to do with our best runs of success

If anything it's been a blend of the work both GM's put in so the answer is not as simple as saying ''yes'' or ''no'' 

Since his return, Marty has been what many would consider a very good GM.  Dave in his return to NYG remains to be seen if he's developed beyond what he was here, as it seems he's stripped that team of talent much like he did our own after 2015. Saving grace may be Jones, it remains to be seen.

As it stands with this team IMO Rivera should be the one on the hot seat solely. Kyle Allen may very well be the one to save his job this time.

      This was his first season playing where he was healthy. I have never seen anyone be given more chances to get healthy than this guy. I don't know what contract he will get, but someone will be gambling that he will be available. If he could be had for back-up guard money, I'd go for him quickly, and use him situationally as an extra tight end. If he can't be, that's fine. In my fantasy scenario, we have completely remade our offense under a new and improved Bryce with an Offensive Coordinator (Canales) who finally figured out how to run the offense later in the year.  I can dream. And all of my dreams have been wrong. We will not get Warren, Skattebo, or Becton, and all three will be major contributors wherever they go.

      He seems to be able to handle FA signings pretty well, but the draft is where a GM makes or breaks a team and the results are inconclusive at the moment.

      There’s also a big difference between our starters and most other teams. We’ve been bottom of the barrel since second half of 2018. Drafting a “starter” here is a lot easier than drafting a starter in KC so your stat, while true, doesn’t indicate that we are draft less starters each draft and we aren’t getting impact guys outside Brown and 50% of an impact guy in Horn. After round 1, since 2018, Chubba is literally the only impact starter in 7 drafts. Thats horrific drafting and it’s why we’ve spent $270M on 2 guards, 2 DTs and 1 safety. People go to the SB when they spend that on their franchise QB, not on guards, DTs and safeties. I hope they all make the team better but overpaying positions we should be drafting and developing on the cheap is not the best way to build a contender.
