We need to extend Allen.

This is the initial trove Dallas secured from the Vikings:

  • LB Jesse Solomon
  • LB David Howard
  • CB Issiac Holt
  • RB Darrin Nelson
  • DE Alex Stewart
  • Minnesota's 1st round pick in 1990
  • Minnesota's 2nd round pick in 1990
  • Minnesota's 6th round pick in 1990
  • Minnesota's 1st round pick in 1991 (conditional on cutting Solomon)
  • Minnesota's 2nd round pick in 1991 (conditional on cutting Howard)
  • Minnesota's 1st round pick in 1992 (conditional on cutting Holt)
  • Minnesota's 2nd round pick in 1992 (conditional on cutting Nelson)
  • Minnesota's 3rd round pick in 1992 (conditional on cutting Stewart)

Could Cam bring in a similar haul?

LMAO! We'd be lucky to get a fun sized bag of Doritos at this point. Sure someone will give us 3 drafts for a guy who can no longer pass or run. I'm a Cam Homer as much as the next guy but you sir, should lay off the bath salts!

Might as well go full gape right now. Kids going to be good.

Better to keep him on a low contract for the next couple of seasons and then sign him. From a team standpoint why pay him extra right now off of two games and one being against the worst pass defense in the NFL, when you can have him cheap for the next few years? Before you made this thread you didn't look up the details of his contract situation and just wanted to go full Jimmy G.

I would see if he can put together at least 3-4 solid games and see what he does when we play a better team.

Sure, if he has 3-4 good games and we end up 4-2 or 3-3 and the team continues responding to him... I think you have to look at a 2 year deal or something with incentives. Lock him up on the cheap

He's already locked up on the cheap for that long.

I don't think we need to - or should - extend him now because of small sample size and controllable years. Having said that, I think we need to find out what we've got, and I think we're about to see.

I think it's important to remember that he was the overall #1 recruit coming out of high school. There are lots of moving parts in college that can cause a player to either be overvalued or undervalued. (just look at draft results) Hopefully with Kyle, it was just an awkward combination of circumstances that caused him to fail to reach his expected potential in college, and we got incredibly lucky to land him as an UDFA.

I'm saying it right now. No matter what happens with the Texans he needs to be here 3 more years. I love Cam but I love this team more and paying a now injury prone QB doesn't make sense. We could actually save money and use it to sure up our Oline. Letting Allen walk into FA would be a huge mistake for us.

Um, no. We wait and see if he does well against average or better defenses that have tape on him. Then we wait for Cam to get better to see if we have some leverage. Then he can either sign an extension at a reasonable number or we can hold on to him as long as we need to while developing Grier or whoever is behind him. It's a very long road.

Two years is great, but unfortunately won’t get 3 cheap years out of him if he’s that good. No chance we can’t pay him when he’s a RFA. A big If on this, but if he’s a franchise type guy any QB needy team would pony up a big deal and give up a 1st rounder for him as a RFA.

We have other contracts coming up that need to be taken care of first. We can discuss extending the kid at the end of the year or after the next year or two. There absolutely is no need to extend him right now two games into an NFL career. Imagine Daniel Jones balling out this week for a second straight game and asking for a new contract. That isn't how winning teams operate.

I wasn't talking about extending him after two games. Just this year. How many times have we just walked away from a great player because the price got too high.
