We need to extend Allen.

I'm saying it right now. No matter what happens with the Texans he needs to be here 3 more years. I love Cam but I love this team more and paying a now injury prone QB doesn't make sense. We could actually save money and use it to sure up our Oline. Letting Allen walk into FA would be a huge mistake for us.

Pretty sure he's an Exclusive Rights Free Agent anyway.

Mr. Scot you have to agree he made throws that were not just back up grade. It might have been on a terrible defense but the price will only get higher as we go.

I was impressed with him this last week. But given a full season Im not convinced that Grier wont be better than him next year.

How? What flim makes you think this in any way. Allen is the only QB to win us games since week 6 of last year.

I have to agree he had one fantastic game.

So did Matt Flynn, Rob Johnson, Chris Weinke and others before falling back to Earth.

Always wait and see...

He wasn't bad in NO either. All I'm saying is he needs to be extended. Not given 40 million. With Cam only having a year left on his contract a guy who could be a second choice isn't bad.

Well if thats your only criteria..

Im as happy as the next guy we got a win but keep in mind we played a terrible D that was playing CMC more than the pass. Houston will be a big challenge for the team overall and we might be playing from behind in that game so Allen will have more chances to prove himself but I would not sign him now after 1 game.

If he was smart and wanted to bet on himself he would not sign either.

Im not saying he is cannot be the 'real deal' but Im not going to say that about a UDFA after 1 game.

He can't negotiate with anybody else next season. There's no risk involved.

Let the season play out, then decide.

Correct.  He is an ERFA next year and a RFA after that.  Hell then we could Tag him.

We will know soon enough where he stands. There is no hurry.

If he balls out we can redo a long term contract over 4-5 years.  That will pay him up front and only cost us an average of 15-19 million per year.  That’s a bargain. Take that extra 30 mill a year and build one hell of a team.

You don't extend a guy based on one (or two) games.  Allen will (apparently) have plenty of time to show us who he is with Cam out.  If we hit the bye at 3-3 or 4-2, I can understand how it might be in our best interest to extend him.  However, by the same token, if we are at that point, why would *he* want to do that?  Why wouldn't he instead opt to wait it out and get paid?

Now, if Kyle Allen has us at 4-2, I fully expect him to remain the starter for a while.  As such, if he then navigates us to 11-5 there should be serious conversations at the highest levels about whether or not we continue with Cam.  Not because I want to see us dump Cam, but you don't pay Cam 30-40 million per season when you've got a guy 7 years younger who can get you to the playoffs.

Bear in mind, we have three ROCK STARS on offense right now who will want to be paid over the next five years:  CMC, DJ & Curtis.  Assuming they continue to develop, there's 30 million per season right there if you want to keep all three, maybe more.
