Sh&^% Just Ain't Fair!!!

Week 3 has come and gone and although we got our first victory of the season which was in deed an incredible feeling.  But as soon as the game ended the happiness and excitement we as a fanbase experienced quickly soured and has left a bad taste in my mouth.  Kyle Allen played UNBELIEVABLE for a guy in his 2nd career start!  Lighting up the Cardinals for 4 TD passes and throwing for over 250+.   Not to take any credit away from Allen but the Arizona Cardinals are statistically the 3rd worse defense in the league.  All week I have been badgered by friends and co-workers, knowing I am a diehard Panthers fan, about how we just "need to cut Cam" we need to "trade Cam" or whatever stupidity they could come up with just to get a rise out of me.  But then I turn to social media and sports outlets and some suggesting the same thing.

The consistence throughout the Panthers "fanbase" (And I will use quotes for those suggesting these ridiculous comments) that Cam needs to but cut or traded and Kyle Allen needs to be the starter for the remainder of the season.  If Cam is 100% healthy there is undoubtedly no question that CAM NEWTON is the starter for the Panthers.  As shocked as I was about Kyle Allen's performance Sunday lets not ignore the facts.  The Cardinals are a bad team with a worse defense.  We actually had a running game with 153 yards and a touchdown.  Our defense held the Cardinals for 248 total yards including 8 sacks, 10 tackles for loss, and 2 interceptions.  The whole team was collectively better than the previous 2 weeks.

Cam Newton played, obviously still recovering from surgery and injuries vs the Ram's #3 rated Defense and the Buccaneers #14 rated defense.  A little different than 3rd to last.  Now I am not trying to take away anyone's performance Sunday, it was glorious.  But for folks, I would assume whom never played football, suggesting Cam is done and washed up.

Cam has literally put this organization back on the map since entering the league.  I could go on and on and list every Cam Newton accomplishment here on this thread and to some it wouldn't matter.  But for those who you know, you know dang well what Cam Newton has done for this organization.  It seems so damn unfair for fans to want to cut ties with Cam or blame Cam for everything.

My old coach said when the team wins the Quarterback gets all the praise.  When the team loses the Coach gets all the blame.  I truly feel Cam gets all the blame and really never has gotten the praise he deserves.

If Cam Newton wants to be here and play for the Panthers and he is healthy then by god he's the starting Quarterback.

Kyle Allen great job Sunday!  You're presence is known sir!  Keep Pounding.

A lot depends on how KA plays and how long Cam is out. If Cam is out until early November and KA has a perfect record, you don't mess with what's working.

If he's average, Cam is your starter. One game is too soon to crown KA the next Tom Brady.

Cams contract will come into play at some point, but for right, KA is my QB, the Panthers won, and DJ gave a ESPY worthy int.

Lifes not fair.

Football isn't either.

And the reality is that very few football careers end with players riding heroically off into the sunset, going out in a blaze of glory or whatever other metaphor you want to throw in here.

I have no idea how things are going to play out for Allen and Newton this season, but I do know if you're holding out hope for a fairy tale ending for Cam, Luke or anybody else, you've got a pretty good shot at being disappointed.

Yes, Cam has done amazing things. That’s not in question. Everyone is thankful for those years and hopes more of those good years is to come.

However, I’m not about rewarding guys for past performance. That’s Hurn 1.0 territory. I’m thinking, where is Cam now and where will he be in the future. It’s not unreasonable or disloyal to question his abilities right now in 2019 and to consider where he will be beyond 2019.

Cam has had injuries 3 years in a row now. He’s only getting older. Will this continue?

Cam has never been a top tier passer. He’s relied on his running game to make up for it. If his age is causing that part of his game to go away, what is his real value?

Maybe he’ll pickup where he left off at the beginning of last year, maybe he can’t. Maybe KA will emerge as the better pocket  passer.

These are all valid questions a good fan should ask.

There are a lot of idiots, racists, fakes, etc. in our fan base.

You're only a true fan if you appreciate Cam for what he has done for this franchise, realize that he's still the starter if he can get healthy, and for wanting him to be a career Panther.

THAT SAID: We are very fortunate to have two promising backups behind our starting, potential HOF QB. It would be smart to go ahead and try to get Allen a contract extension should he continue to exhibit the skills he did on Sunday. With him and Grier, I feel more comfortable than I have in a long time about our depth at the position.

We've seen a glimpse of what Allen can do. Grier is still a rookie, but there is still hope that he could eventually beat out Allen. That means there is a whole lot of hope for the future of the franchise, regardless.

Cam has a realistic shot at the HOF. Allen has played 2 games. When Cam gets healthy, you absolutely go back to him.

You will never change the mind of those who dismiss Cam. Just enjoy the ride, and tune out the noise.

Did you actually watch Cam in the first two games?  He was not good.  At all.

If healthy and passing well sure, maybe you give him the keys back but we are ways off from this.  I hope Cam gets healthy for his own good.  Agree he is probably a HOFer

Peyton Manning, Joe Montana and Brett Favre are all guys who would appear on the vast majority of "Top 10 Best NFL QBs ever" lists (assuming the lists are made by people who know what they're talking about).

Yet not one of them finished their careers with the teams they led to glory. Instead, they all found themselves dropped for younger replacements, with varying degrees of "thank you" expressed on their way out the door.

It happens.

Now, given that we've got a coach who always likes to see veterans finish their careers 'on their own terms" and a GM who's been known to throw out "thank you" contracts, I'd actually say Newton might be better positioned for a happy ending than some of his predecessors. But again, fairytale endings are the exception in the NFL, not the norm.

That might sound unjust, but that's how it works.

Football only cares about who you are, not who you were.
