The timing of that move was still beyond awful. It left us with no other choice but to throw draft picks at CBs in desperation. That led to fielding one of the worst NFL secondaries I've ever seen. Just let him play out the season under the tag and let him walk the following off-season

Bingo!!!  Norman was very, very good in 2016.  He has obviously declined here 3 years later, but rescinding the tag on Norman was pick Gettleman arrogance.  It made no sense then, and still doesn't now.

It's taken us the 3 years until now (I'm hoping the nice play of the secondary continues) to field a legit NFL secondary.

Bradberry and Norman would have been a good combo in 2016, and we wouldn't have wasted draft picks on Darryl Worley or Zack Sanchez

I would agree with you that it made no sense at all for Gettleman to rescind the tag, there is no logical reason a GM would do so.

Who was the only person in the Panthers senior management who had anything to gain by rescinding that tag?  (hint: saved $13 million)

It's almost as if you're completely ignorant with how contract negotiations can go in the NFL

I am certain of 2 facts:

1. My understanding of any and all nuances as related to contract negotiations of any kind is superior to yours.

2.  You have no idea about what really happened between Josh and the Panthers.

Oh wait, there's a 3rd....

3.  Josh refused to sign the tag.

He was good but nowhere near the 1000 yard freak he eventually turned into.

That was more on Mike Martz than anyone. Dude was so stupid, he refused to use Olsen in his offense because he doesn't like using TEs. That's it. Didn't even give Olsen a chance to become great.

He would have signed it. He pleaded to. You may know contracts  but you are ignoring the facts here

"My agent called them up and said if they wanted to do something, like a one-year, market-value [deal]," Norman told ESPN's Dave Newton on Monday. "We wanted to come back. They said they weren't willing to, so we had to do what we had to do."
