now i will say i have no idea what the situation is if a team dr orders an mri for you, and you don't get it, no idea, and its possible we've been in that situation with cam before, possibly multiple times

Loads of players have stories of shenanigans they pulled to get to play when doctors told them they shouldn't.

And yeah, we've heard rumors about Newton. Are they true? Who knows?

What rules there are technically are in place to keep coaches from abusing players. But if the players are complicit, you can't force them either way.

And again, if this becomes an issue, I know exactly what the answer is going to be.

"Well, he wanted to play."

Really the whole staff should be fired. How in the world could you not tell that Newton was not able to play ...were they not letting him practice? If u don't practice you shouldn't be playing. And if the did what were they practicing, Patty Cake! Cam in neither game looked capable of winning a game. Rivera,  Turner, medical staff all dropped the ball on this one.

My man, we all know this team medical staff is garbage

If it takes 4-8 weeks, Cam need to sit all 8 weeks

You guys are foaming at the mouth to blame everything on Rivera.

If the initial cray comes back good, the doctor clears the player to play, and the player says he's good to play, every coach is going to play the player, especially if he's the franchise QB.

It's up to the teams medical staff to make the decision whether a player is healthy enough to go or not.  Not the coaches.  It's not a recommendation. If the staff feels he shouldn't be playing, the the player won't play, period.

I've never met a single member of the  Panthers medical staff. I can't speak to their character whatsoever.

I can say football history is littered with stories of team doctors making team friendly decisions. Those stories, however, generally occurred during times when medical rules were somewhat more loosely enforced than they are these days.

I'm not really prepared to put my tinfoil hat on for this one though. I think it's more just a case of "we don't know for sure". TV doctors can look at a poorly developed x-ray of somebody's gut and within ten seconds know every minute detail of what's happening. Real world doctors? Not so much.

Rivera could have erred on the side of caution, but hey...
