Newton may be dealing with a lisfranc injury

what?   they don't bench them but they decide if they're cleared to play.  a coach can't play someone who isn't cleared

That applies to concussion protocols, not necessarily to foot injuries.

One of the local media guys talked about a recent presser where he asked Rivera who makes the decisions on whether Newton is healthy enough to play.

His response? Newton does.

That response is why, if this ultimately becomes a blame game, I think I know exactly where it's headed.

If Rivera had knowledge that cam has a lisfranc injury (which he has to cuz he's the coach) and let him play anyways,  it's just another reason to fire him.

The decision between whether a player is able to play with an injury is between the player and the medical staff. The coach can't make him play. Rivera was almost handed his head for sitting Cam for one series due to a wardrobe infraction... there's no way in hell that he was going to make Cam play when Cam didn't want to or when medical staff wouldn't clear him.

From what I can tell, a Liz Franc injury isn't always easy to diagnose right off the bat. Of course, many of you are quite accomplished podiatrists and surgeons.

Rivera's had him playing hurt all along. Go back and see Cam's interview prior to the first game. Came says, "I'm just tired of being hurt"... Ron said he's 100% and "there's no injury."

In the football culture, there's a distinction between hurt and injured.

And if the player says "I want to play" (as we know Newton would do, even if he shouldn't) then the coach can just defer to him or he can say "No, you probably shouldn't."

There have been several times when Rivera should have told Newton to sit down. His response is always "he doesn't want to". To which my response would be, "I thought you were the head coach".

You can tell him to sit for not wearing a tie but can't tell him to sit when he's hurt?

you're misinformed.   you have to be cleared by the medical staff to play, and to play you need to not be able to make the injury worse under normal football circumstances

Remember when you were all mad at the reporters for pushing Ron about Cam and saying there was nothing new to learn? That was a good time....

I was told this was an elaborate Joe Person plot....

rappaport already reported yesterday this was a day to day, not a week to week issue.

it seems like yet another manipulative ploy from Person to try and out his extreme hypothesis out there and "force" the Panthers to confirm or deny so Joe can claim so weird victory in this ongoing crusade he's had to "get" the Panthers for this fantasy narrative he's manufactured. He tried manipulating Rivera as recently as today and this dude has been obsessed with trying to springboard his career through an obsession with off the field garbage that nobody cares about as long as he has been here. Guy isn't a football fan.

Yeah and it appears he got the day to day from Rivera, who is no longer saying that and is now saying there is no timetable for his return right now.

We saw how well it flew when Ron benched Cam against Cam's wishes. This has been Cam's team in many ways for the past few years.
