A few things worth noting on the Panthers victory yesterday

ALLEN THROWS FOUR TOUCHDOWNS

·         In his second-career start, QB Kyle Allen recorded four passing touchdowns and finished with a 144.4 passer rating. Allen completed 19-of-26 attempts for 261 yards and no interceptions.

·         Allen is the first Panther to throw four touchdowns in one game since 2017 (Cam Newton vs. Green Bay, 12/17/17).

·         His 144.4 passer rating is the second-highest mark by a Panthers quarterback in a single game in team history (minimum 10 pass attempts). Cam Newton holds the single-game record with a 153.3 rating vs. Atlanta (12/13/15).

McCAFFREY SETS TWO FRANCHISE RECORDS

  • RB Christian McCaffrey recorded a 76-yard touchdown run in the third quarter. It marked the longest rushing touchdown in team history and the second-longest rush ever by a Panther.
  • McCaffrey tallied 35 receiving yards on three catches. He brought his career total to 1,650 receiving yards, passing DeAngelo Williams (1,621) for the most receiving yards by a running back in team history.
  • McCaffrey recorded 188 scrimmage yards (153 rushing, 35 receiving) against the Cardinals. He now has 450 scrimmage yards this year, the most by a Panthers player ever through the first three weeks of any season.

CAT PACK SCORES THREE TDs

·         In addition to McCaffrey’s rushing touchdown, WRs DJ Moore and Curtis Samuel each tallied a touchdown reception.

·         Samuel scored the first points of the game for Carolina on a five-yard touchdown reception in the second quarter. It was the first receiving touchdown by a Panthers player this season and marked the eighth touchdown (six receiving, two rushing) of Samuel’s career.

·         Moore posted a career-long 52-yard touchdown reception in the second quarter, the longest reception by any Panther this season.

OLSEN SCORES TWICE

·         TE Greg Olsen scored two touchdowns, marking his first multi-touchdown game since 2015 (vs. New Orleans, 9/27/15). It is Olsen’s fourth multi-touchdown game with Carolina.

·         Olsen now has 59 career touchdowns, the eighth most by any tight end in NFL history. He has 39 career touchdowns as a Panther, the second most by any tight end in team history, trailing only Wesley Walls (44).

ADDISON TALLIES THREE SACKS

·         LB/DE Mario Addison racked up 3.0 sacks at Arizona, tying his career-high for sacks in a single game. It was Addison’s sixth-career game with 2.0+ sacks and the first multi-sack game by a Panther since Addison posted 3.0 sacks versus Tampa Bay last season (11/4/18).

DEFENSE RECORDS EIGHT SACKS

·         Carolina tallied eight total sacks against Arizona, tied for the second-most in a single game in Panthers history. The franchise record for sacks in a game is nine, which was set back in 2013 (vs. Atlanta, 12/29/13).

·         Addison led the team with 3.0 sacks, rookie LB/DE Christian Miller had 2.0 sacks, while rookie LB/DE Brian Burns, S Eric Reid and LB Shaq Thompson each tallied 1.0 apiece.

JACKSON RECORDS TWO INTERCEPTIONS

·         CB Donte Jackson tallied his second-career multi-interception game. His first game with multiple interceptions was against Cincinnati last year (9/23/18).

·         Jackson brought his career interception total to six, which is the most on the team dating back to the start of the 2018 season.

Two things of note looking at that:

1. How good it feels for our wide receivers to find the end zone and how long it has been since that was a regular occurrence.

2. We’ve beaten up on Atlanta pretty bad in our history, but not for a while. Seems we’re due. And based on their play so far this year, seems likely.

Thanks Igo. Good post. Heres hoping cam gets healthy soon but in the meantime, I feel a little better.

Perhaps it was the Cardinals on the menu, but I doubt it. We let a Rams team escape with a victory, and lost to a Bucs team that we really should have beaten comfortably as well. I think the team's talent transcends being cast as only being able to beat "weak sisters" (to use an old expression).

It just goes to show us that the team was never as bad as we thought. There are some things that need to be tightened up for sure---very much so, but a healthy QB making accurate passes and actually executing plays and making good reads can make all the difference in the world to an offense, from the receivers to the running backs, to the O-line, to the OC and HC.

Good QB play even extends to the defense, as they can actually get more time to rest, analyze and scheme. Did I mention more time to rest?

On to the Texans to further prove that the team is legit!
