Ron Rivera: “Cam is the Starter, but right now we are going to depend on Kyle going forward”

If Allen continues to play lights out through the bye he’s going to have to have a tough conversation with Cam and press conference, but it’s way too early to say that. I think Ron handled it well by saying this. Basically a 100% Cam is our starter as of right now but he’s not 100% and won’t be for at least a little while so we’re relying on Allen right now (and reading between the lines, possibly further down the road too).

This really doesn't mean anything.  Obviously he isn't going to imply that Newton will be benched upon return.  That would be disrespectful as hell to say in a press conference, especially when he almost certainly hasn't talked to Cam yet.

But if Allen plays the next 2 games and plays great?  I seriously doubt they would bench him.

Have you paid attention to any of the various decisions Ron has made when it comes to starting guys?

If Cam gets back to 90% Ron will start him. He owes his longevity and 2 COTY awards to Cam

"Hopes he doesn't start dressing funny..."

Yeah, that'll get a few takes :Eyes_Emoji_42x42:

Its been confirmed that Kyle Allen wears cargo shorts, I doubt Rivera needs worry too much about that changing.  I wouldn't mind seeing him wear one of Cam's hats with those shorts though.

As it should be. Let Cam heal up to 100%. Let's be honest with ourselves, Cam gives us the best chance to go deep into the playoffs IF he's 100% healthy. But Cam hasn't been fully healthy for a long time now, so Allen might get even more chances this season.

Agree, but the question is, will Cam ever be 100% again? Even take away the ankle injury, which will heal, his shoulder has not looked right at all. Looks like a pitcher who has thrown his arm out. Even throwing a 15 yard pass looks very difficult for him... It’s just fuging brutal to watch.

The REAL test is gonna be when Cam is healthy and they put him back out there. If it's next week, Cam is going to have to be as on point as Allen was today or there will be a damn revolt.  If it's in 2-3 weeks, and Allen continues playing well, it'll be even worse because you're sitting the hot hand and rolling with the QB that hasn't been himself in a couple years.

This is gonna be dicey no matter what, barring Allen just playing awful next week.

Could not disagree more, I have no idea which Cam Newton you have been watching since mid last season.

And Darrin Gantt is the most annoying douche around
