For those of you who say that Allen didn’t play against Saint’s starters.

I want Grier to start to see what he can do.... Cam didn’t exactly light the world on fire his first preseason neither did mustache....Grier could be really bad... or really good. Allen could surprise me but I see him as a backup at this point.

I'd much rather he sit for a while.

Us older folks remember the days when young quarterbacks had time to develop. Anymore they get rushed into action, often before they're really ready.

I prefer seeing young quarterbacks eased into the pro game, but I don't often get my wish these days.

That godly genius Sean Payton throwing the game JUST to tank our draft pick, by...playing 95% of his starters for a large chunk of a meaningless game...and...sending 5-6 man blitzes against an UFA rookie QB behind a suspect o-line...and stuff...

If my memory is correct Micheal Thomas played into the 4th quarter as Payton was painfully desperate to have him set some record on the year

Is that  what you call it when Allen gets crushed because of our o line?

OL play and QB play go hand in hand.  I love me some Cam.  But Cam has always made his OL look worse than they are IMO big picture with his play style/habits.   Same can be said for Watson in HOU.  Neither have good OLs.   Both OLs do painfully bad things.  Both QBs tend to make things worse pretty consistent. When both get decent protection on a play (which does happen) and good play is there to be made....they often can let it turn into a bad play.

Not always. When Cam ran the ball, he masked a lot of issues on the o-line. Now that he's a "pocket passer" all thos issues have come crashing to the surface.

Honestly, I don’t know how more folks didn’t anticipate his success. I’m sure a lot of that is from folks who are overly protective of Newton, and I understand that. He is the icon of the franchise, and anything that might threaten that threatens them. From a pure football standpoint, he demonstrated everything you want to see against constant pressure (starters) in the first 30 min of the Saints game.

That said, it gets tougher next week. And it’ll be tougher each week on top of that, as long as he’s in the lineup. Film can work both ways. You can demonstrate your strengths, and quality opponents use it to tear you down. This is not a victory lap, this is just a window into my thought process.
