Peter King on Carolina's pass protection (or lack of)

A lot of games boil down to putting the ball in the air in the 4th quarter. Build your team around being able to air it out in the 4th effectively. Your premier players need to be the QB, TD makers, and pass protectors. The Panthers go lame o-line, young unproven WRs, grandpa TE, very expensive d-line, very expensive LBs, budget safeties, and wonder why we are losing? Take all of that FOCKING money you wasted on d-line and LB and put in into the O-LINE and WR! Sorry got angry.

Let's say Cam's career is pretty much over. When we rebuild the o-line has to be the top priority other than QB. This is passing league and the NFL wants the ball in the air and touchdowns. The rules and incompetent refs know scoring sells and you want to have an excited audience enjoying an aerial bombardment. Ratings to sell beer and trucks. Check. Refs on our side for the first time. Check. Back to back winning seasons. Well let's not get crazy.

Wilson had the worst OL for 3 str years, still won.

Brady had ALL sort of different OLmen, including 3 different LT starting each year.

Panthers have a good enough OL to win, but just used as a excuse. Have people seen other OLs??? More than a few are far worse than panthers and have been.

Kyle Allen did a very good job of getting the ball out of his hands and to the playmakers in the one real game we saw him in. He also had better pocket awareness and a better internal clock than Cam. I’m optimistic he can do it.

But he is still going to get killed if we don’t cut the poo and switch the tackles back to where they should be. Just use the eyeball test. Their body types and their previous play both dictate which positions they should play.

Also, just admit they suck and trade for Trent Williams.

Yeah, I wanted Dillard.

I assumed, after all these years and after all these Cam injuries, that it was time.  And that coaching and management would understand that.

I assumed wrong.

And now we see the results.

One of our inside guys confirmed that they actually were prepared to take a left tackle with the #16 pick if Brian Burns hadn't fallen.

But it was Greg Little.

(which probably helps explain why they were willing the trade up for him in the second)

Imagine If we'd taken Little in the first and Burns had gone somewhere else.

If you trade for any player at this point, you're probably trading away picks that were going to belong to another GM.

(not that I necessarily think that would stop Marty)

That makes my head hurt.

Even as it was, we traded up and gave away a pick we probably didn't need to.

One of Marty's most annoying traits is his habit of getting it in his head that the entire league is after a certain player when in reality it's just him.

That particular failing has led to more than one overpriced free agent contract.

all that money spent on the DL and LB's and they still can't stop anyone

There are technically 5 worse olines than the Panthers through two games. So yea more than a few but out of 32...that’s pretty bad.

And I am pretty sure the LT play is bottom 3.

Combine that with Cam declining for whatever reason.

Then you have Rivera refusing to adjust a blocking scheme to help.

I’ve always said the oline excuse was getting old. Cam is not an easy QB to block for. From when Cam was drafted to last year the oline rank average was slightly above average (14-15th) whereas his worst oline he ever had was ranked 22nd.

But this year it’s ranked 27. Sure it’s just two games so far but statistically speaking this has been the worst oline he’s played behind. And now add the other factors I stated above and this team isn’t going anywhere.

And while Can is playing horrid, sticking a new QB In isn’t going to change all these other issues.
