You forgot Jake Delhomme for a local situation. Also, Tom Brady and Colin Kaepernick who got their chances when an injury led to an opportunity.

maybe.  We went to the Super Bowl though w/ our backup. 

We played a team in the Super Bowl and that team was lead by a QB who had the job because at one time he took over as a backup and took his team to the Super Bowl.   The Eagles went to the Super Bowl recently....with their backup taking over getting them there. 

the moment Delhomme, Brady, Foles etc took over.  No one thought they would do diddly squat. 

that is why sports is fun.  You can never predict it.
