Wilks didn't want to be a scapegoat. Everyone could see this was a make or break year for Rivera.

I'm surprised McDermott lasted as long as he did here. Seemed like Sean was trying to prove a point in training camp and preseason.

McDermott is a good coach. He was an excellent DC, if he keeps going like he does uncle buffalo. Who knows!

Wilkes was treated unfairly and should not have been fired by Arizona. It’s very similar to what is going on Miami. Two coaches of color brought in  to an impossible situation made worse by team management. Flores will probably be fired after this season, and like Coach Wilkes, their reputations will be tarnished and their chances at being a head coach agAin probably over. Meanwhile, Adam Gase or Jeff Fischer will have no problem securing head coaching jobs again.  Think on it.

lol. go to Occupy Democrats if you wanna be stunning and brave. Wilks got fired because he's a supposed defensive guru and was bottom 10 in both yards and PPG last year and had zero idea how to run an offense in the 21st century. The fact that he even got a head coaching gig was a joke considering the Panthers were dead last in pass defense the second half of his only season as a coordinator. Would you also care to explain how Marvin Lewis lasted 17 years without winning 1 playoff game? How many white coaches have gone 0-16 and 1-15 in consecutive years and were allowed to come back for another year like Hue Jackson did? Were you doing the same virtue signaling when Tom Coughlin got fired despite winning 2 Super Bowls in 5 years? Jeff Fisher overstayed his welcome, but his teams were never not competitive and despite all the criticism he gets he had a winning record as a coach in 20 seasons and made a Super Bowl and was close to making a few more. there's a hell of a lot of coaches who were worse at their job than Jeff Fisher. Not sure why people cant just accept that there's about 5 really good coaches in the NFL and the rest of them are pretty shitty and some of those shitty coaches happen to be black. When you bomb your first coaching gig of course it's going to ruin your chances of getting another head coaching job, and if you had any ounce of success you'll get hired again. Dennis Green and Lovie Smith got second gigs. Do you really think if Mike Tomlin got fired this year he wouldnt be the top candidate on the market?

Wilks got fired because Steve Keim is a dumbass and he needed a scapegoat for a bad season. A smarter man would have given him time to grow into the role.

Keim is part of it, but Wilks also got fired because he flipped a 3-4 defense that was top 10 into a 4-3 that was bottom 5. He also wants to run an offense like it’s 1960. The Cards under Kingsbury already look more competitive than they did under Wilks.

Wilks definitely was flawed. Wouldn't deny that. Every first year coach is.

On the flipside though, Kingsbury is still new. Remember, Chip Kelly had some early success also.

That's why either way, I think you have to be patient. Early success doesn't always last, and some early failures become great coaches.

I think there’s a limit. You can still be a bad team, but remain competitive. There have been plenty of first year coaches like that. They went on to have success. Wilks didn’t. He also refused to adapt  throughout the year. I respect Arizona for not sticking with an obvious bad HC that was in over his head. I don’t think he should have gotten a HC hire in the first place.
