Hypothetical: Cam is released after the season, where does he go?

I still think he gets undue criticism.  There's only so much you can do when your starting QB is sucking it up as bad as he has the last 10 games.  This board thinks Ron is 0-58-1 and Cam is 71-0-0 so I was never going to make hay with that argument here.  But some team is going to take that into account and see that in seasons with a healthy QB he had a decent track-record  of making the playoffs and roll the dice.  Meanwhile if Cam continues to play as bad as he has and is released, it's very unlikely he'd land anywhere besides a backup role.

Right cause I mean we're all watching the coaches play the game

Any coach can hide behind players performance

But let me flip it though. Cam Newton was the number 1 draft choice of a professional football team. Ron had 11 interviews before somebody finally hired his ass so yeah its just you that can't see somebody who's just not HC material. Also, look around the league since I realize yall only watch the Panthers... offensive HC's are the way now

When did this interviews thing become a point that some huddlers actually think helps them?  I can't tell if people are pretending to endorse such an obviously asinine line of thinking that acts like years of actual head coaching results are less relevant than what happened over a decade ago in the interview stage, lol.'

Maybe some intrepid huddler can find the coaches that Ron was passed over for in those 10+ interviews.  I'm sure all of them had much longer HC careers, obviously; they were hired over Ron!

I didn't concede, and also didn't see you correct my pointing out your very lame attempt at shading Rivera. Really, if there was actually any intellect in that I would call it intellectually dishonest.

Now play your little Jr High debate games some more if you insist but really, my continuing to allow you to drag me into an argument about your totally biased opinion of my opinion, is not productive.

I know Igo believes he might retire.

Thing of it is, given all the history and everything here, if he plays badly enough that the Panthers would be willing to release him then there may not be a huge market.

No matter how he plays the rest of this year, he’ll have a fairly big market as a FA just due to the position being so difficult to find quality players at and his MVP history. He may not have a huge trade market though if he doesn’t get any better this year since there could be too much risk to give up much of value.

Interesting quote here.  Anyone care to guess the date it was written?

"Newton has been a force, a game-changer, and despite the criticism he's faced—some of it earned, some of it not—he will go down as one of the dominant players of his generation. Most people with a shred of football knowledge and an ounce of honesty know this.

Yet it's also true that at times Newton looks spent. He's been hurt, sure, but that doesn't seem to be the problem. More and more Newton appears a bit sluggish on the edges, where he once routinely destroyed defenses. Newton's never been extremely accurate, but some of his passes are shockingly errant nowadays.

It's always dangerous to doubt Newton. He could follow his bad game against the XXX's by torching the Buccaneers. Again, he's not soft.

But he also may be breaking down.

And there may be nothing anyone can do about it but watch."

There is no “shading” Ron Rivera. Im firmly of the opinion that he has never been a good head coach, nearly 1/3 of the league’s teams passed on the guy back in 2011 and his level of coaching looks to have barely evolved since then. Ad hominem aside, I backed my initial claim with proof. You choosing to not refute it but instead post some droll about how I’m not worth a response or whatever led me believe you have nothing else to add, again like how you did now. Concession. Accepted.

Now that I've had time to calm down i think most of us are overreacting. I think Cam is gonna look decent but we'll find a way to turn the ball over and beat Arizona.

And Cam is gonna be good again the Deshaun Watson game. That's what this football life as a fan of this team is trending towards.

Cam isn't gonna just suck himself into oblivion he's gonna play well enough to get a contract extension and continue this whole rollercoaster, love/hate, fanbase too immature to discuss their QB ride objectively and honestly for at least three more years

i'd like him to go to a winner but the problem is winning teams already have the qb set. steelers is probably the closest scenario i could see happening, he'd make a great stop-gap there to start for a few years and groom their next franchise qb.

    • He's turned into quite a gunslinger
    • Hey guys, remember when we won those meaningless games in 2010 and it cost us the #1 pick and the chance to draft Cam? Oh.... right I get that's more of an extreme example because it got us a HOF caliber QB.  But it's the general concept, you want to win late season games when you have the pieces in place to make a run the next season, we currently are not in that place. Herbert and Sewell are the ones I point to so much, because we literally lost out on 2 franchise different makers by 1 draft slot.  Give us those two players while we still have CMC, Moore, and the rest of the picks we gave up for Bryce, and we'd have been a legit playoff contender the last few years. Draft position matters in the NFL more than any other sport (other than the #1 pick in the NBA in a year with a generational talent).
    • It’s so crazy. If we had a shot for pick 1 and there was some generational player there then yeah maybe I could get behind the draft position argument. I’d say most GMs and coaches aren’t diving into the draft right now. They are trying to win games.
