Glass half full approach to Cam Newton

Ok so we all know what Cam's performance probably says about our team and Cams career but here is my way to optimistic opinion.

1. Cam needs the Panthers to switch Moton and Williams. It's clear Williams can't stop speed rushers from killing Cam. Fix this and Cam will feel more comfortable in the pocket.

2. Maybe it really is rust. Cam has not participated in a practice for a very long time. He needs to get his timing down and to retrain his arm and shoulder. We really should play him no matter the score or the record this year if that's true.

Well there you have it folks.

agreed on both counts. cam was hitting those crossing routes right on the money because they were quick enough for the line to not disintegrate in front of him.

if the line shores up he may look more comfortable, may connect on a few of those deep passes, and voila, touchdowns, confidence, and 1-2.

I really hope it's just rust, and in 2 weeks we're looking at 1-2 and all this doom and gloom seems like a distant memory.

In fact, I'd be happy with 0-3 if Cam at least showed me something! I'll take one more L if he puts up crazy yards and a pair of rushing touchdowns and we lose in a shootout. I just need to see that familiar energy from Cam that shows me he's not done yet.

I really think Cam is playing on a broken foot and they’re not saying anything.

Everything has had a weird vibe since he went down in that preseason game. Super hush hush and then a few days later everything is fine like nothing happened.

Cams shoulder has never kept him from running in the past and it looks like he can’t even plant his feet to throw or maneuver in the pocket.

Yes, but at some point you realize those days are past. Its not even his fault. Years of getting killed will break you down physically and mentally. You cant continue to play at this level though. He has never been the most accurate QB anyways, now he is just awful.

If our defense allows the Cards to get into a shootout then we have more problems than just Cam

Ron said multiple times that Cam’s play is not being effected by the foot or shoulder. Of course Ron is coaching for his job also...

I'll copy and paste this post I made in another thread since it honestly fits better here anyway:

The issue is complicated right now. Cam is obviously rusty coming off of shoulder surgery and missing virtually the entire preseason. The good news physically is that his zip on the ball looked really good last night. The bad news physically is that his foot is jacked up and he can't run and that very well could be impacting his passing ability too. That's a really bad thing for Cam. Running the ball is usually what settles Cam down and gets him into the game. Now we have a dual threat QB who is forced to be one dimensional. Okay, no huge deal, right? Oh wait... the OL is straight trash, particularly the left side. Daryl Williams looks even worse than Byron Bell at LT. Paradis is getting flat out man handled and ran over out there. Van Roten is a JAG who is serviceable when playing between two good players but he's sandwiches between trash right now. Passing from the pocket is practically impossible right now.

It's all a recipe for disaster. Cam has to play better and we have to help him do that, but I honestly have no idea how we do it. His foot probably isn't going to get better while he's still playing. I honestly think we should consider sitting him until that foot can allow him to run again, but Rivera has already thoroughly shown that he'll ride Cam's ass into the ground to try to save his job.

Although I agree with 1. I'm not sure how this qualifies as a glass half full opinion when it comes to Cam on a personal level. As for 2. I hadn't realised he wasn't practicing- I thought I read that he was "feeling like a rookie again." Now after the game there is a suggestion that he's injured again? I dunno-after what came before it reads like an excuse.

If I'm gonna be positive I say that he didn't throw interceptions and did make some 20-45 yard throws. That's definitely a positive. The caveat there is that he missed with lots more-I was surprised how they kept going to his arm. The worry is that completion percentage and how bad the bad throws were.
